Director of Collection Management

Responsibilities: The Director of Collection Management will be responsible for strategic leadership, management and planning for Library-wide collections including centralized selection, acquisitions, and processing and cataloging of all formats.  Utilizing trends in electronic licensing, access, copyright, and traditional collections, the successful candidate will work with library leadership to develop policies and carry out tactical directions for maintaining the Library’s collections—including cataloging and metadata, digital collections, product development and print acquisitions. Duties will also include management of the Library’s shared catalog with local schools and museums in the Partner’s Program; negotiating vendor contracts; performing analysis and evaluation of present or proposed procedures and computer-based solutions to library issues.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science; the ability to obtain and retain an Indiana Librarian Certificate 1; and a minimum of six years of professional experience including three years of supervisory experience. Business Librarian – Continuing Appointment


York University Libraries seeks a motivated and service-oriented librarian to serve as a member of the Peter F. Bronfman Business Library and to provide reference and research assistance, instruction, collections and liaison services related to business teaching and research at York University.

The Peter F. Bronfman Business Library, located in the award-winning Seymour Schulich Building, provides facilities, resources, and reference, research and instructional services to the business programs of York University, including those of the highly ranked Schulich School of Business.  A comprehensive collection of print, electronic and data resources support quantitative and qualitative research in business and economics.  Three full-time librarians and five full-time support staff are currently based in the Bronfman Library. 

York University Libraries consists of a large central library and three branch libraries, one of which is the Peter F. Bronfman Business Library. York’s collections have over six million items, including nearly two and a half million book volumes and a multitude of electronic research databases including most of the major business online resources.

The successful candidate will participate in teaching, reference, collection development, liaison, research and assessment activities in the Libraries and elsewhere on campus, and in the development of new programs and services. The librarian will liaise with faculty and academic units, and develop collections for designated business subjects.  The librarian will provide instruction support for business subjects. This individual will support faculty and students with business data research needs and will make effective use of statistical methods, systems and tools to help clients locate, evaluate and use business data resources. He/she will work with the finance librarian to assist patrons in the effective use of financial resources for research and study. The successful candidate will participate in the shared decision-making of the Peter F. Bronfman Business Library and on collegial committees of the Libraries and of the University. He/she will be expected to work regular evening and weekend shifts.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent.
  • Background in business or economics and/or relevant expertise in business librarianship.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative statistical procedures, systems and tools.

This is a continuing appointment with the designation of Assistant Librarian and appropriate for a librarian with a maximum of six years post-MLIS experience. Librarian I/II: Social Sciences


The Wayne State University Library System seeks a highly motivated, service-oriented individual committed to social sciences librarianship and interested in working in a team-based library environment as a user experience librarian.  Under general administrative oversight of the User Experience Director, the Social Sciences Librarian provides research services to faculty and students and participates in reference related projects with a focus in Sociology and Anthropology.  Within the Sociology and Anthropology departments, this position is charged with 1) building core relationships with major stakeholders as a liaison to assigned academic departments, identifying instruction opportunities and setting department information literacy goals to ensure quality curriculum support via student-based instructional efforts; and 2) working closely with colleagues to identify and advance opportunities for instruction and engagement with students and faculty to support development of collections.  This position actively contributes to the library’s outreach activities by establishing strong ties with faculty, effectively communicating with external clients and successfully marketing library services.  The individual in this position must exercise considerable judgment when making decisions, balancing competing priorities and communicating effectively with customers and colleagues.  
Required Qualifications:  Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent; subject background in the social or behavioral sciences; public services experience in a large academic library setting; understanding of professional trends and new technologies relating to the provision of library resources and services; ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a rapidly changing environment; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to collaborate with all levels of staff and with all ranges of campus and community partners; ability to manage projects and set and achieve individual and team goals; demonstrated commitment to expanding skills and professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications:  Second master’s degree in Sociology highly preferred, or advanced degree in other social science discipline; previous experience with reference and instruction in an academic library; experience with ICPSR or other data repository is desirable.

Assistant Head, Scholarship and Education Services Associate Librarian


The J. Willard Marriott Library seeks an energetic, visionary, innovative, and accomplished professional for the newly created position of Assistant Head, Scholarship and Education Services. It will be transformative for Temple University as a community of scholars and for North Philadelphia by providing community space and life-long learning opportunities for area residents.  Temple is currently in the process of reviewing RFPs in the selection of an architectural firm for the project. The new Dean will play a central role in the design and development of this building and its services.

Science Librarian


SUNY Geneseo seeks a service-oriented, and enthusiastic individual to provide reference, library instruction, scholarly communications and outreach in an active liberal arts environment.  This librarian will primarily serve as liaison to six departments in the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics, and Computer Science).  Major responsibilities will include:

  • General and subject-specific reference assistance in the sciences, including in-person, virtual and by-appointment consultations
  • Liaison to science departments, providing outreach, support and collection-based advice
  • Participation in and development of curriculum-integrated information literacy instruction for the Sciences, with online and face-to-face formats
  • Participation in the library's general instruction program for undergraduates
  • Engagement in collection development and information resources management (e.g. Mendeley, Diigo, Endnote, etc.) in the Sciences
  • Participation (in collaboration with other library and academic departments) in digital and scholarly communication projects, including project management, data curation, assessment and grant writing
  • Advising on the acquisition of scientific data sets for campus use and supporting digital library initiatives
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of library services to the science departments, which includes gathering and analysis of assessment data (surveys, needs, etc.) and use statistics

This is a 12-month, full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Senior Assistant Librarian level with attendant expectations for professional competence, service and scholarship.  Initial appointment is for two years.  Some evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent; 
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to faculty, students, and colleagues; 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and project management skills;
