Position Definition:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership, development and coordination of the Technical Services department, including hiring and supervising classified staff and students. Additionally, the Technical Services Librarian
• Manages the organization, development and supervision of all Technical Services.
• Develops and implements policies and procedures for Technical Services staff.
• Manages the acquisitions process by which library materials are ordered, received and processed.
• Performs original and copy cataloging of all library materials according to relevant bibliographic control standards and maintains authority control of online catalog records.
• Manages the expenditures of acquisitions and all library funds/budgets.
• Organizes and manages the special and archive collections, develops archive policies, makes the archived materials accessible. Understands the preservation and conservation of special collections, including providing digital access to the collection.
• Establishes procedures to facilitate collection development to coordinate selection of material for library acquisitions in accordance with college curriculum, the mission of the college and student needs.
• Manages gifts to the collections.
• Provides reference services.
• Teaches bibliographic instruction classes (both face-to-face and online) and participates in curriculum development.
• Participates in information competency and literacy instruction.
• Works with academic divisions to share information and keep collections current.
• Works with regional libraries to share resources and information.
• Carries out collegial responsibilities including but not limited to institutional committee assignments and participation in shared governance committees and campus life committees.
• Communicates well verbally and in writing, and works cooperatively with colleagues (within discipline and college-wide).
• Pursues continuous professional development activities and remains current in the field through course work, conferences, workshops, and other appropriate means.
• Performs duties described in Board policy, the Faculty Handbook, and the MPCTA Contract as assigned at the Monterey campus, the Education Center at Marina, and/or other designated locations.
• Other duties as needed.
Summary of Key Duties:
• Establishes and updates procedures for all Technical Services:
- Acquisitions which includes ordering, processing materials (print, digital, serial, electronic media, gifts, government documents, etc.), allocating budgets, selecting vendors and resolving problems. Cataloging (original and copy) all library materials and making them available in the online catalog using:
i. Library of Congress Subject Headings and Classification System
ii. MARC formats (machine-readable cataloging)
iii. OCLC (Online Computer Library Center)
- Processing all library materials.
- Collection development which includes overseeing the librarians’ print and non-print selections of materials to be added to the collection.
• Manages library budgets, including expended and encumbered funds.
• Uses all the functions of the integrated library system; assesses and learns new tools associated with the integrated library system.
• Trains and supervises all staff in the technical services area.
• Teaches courses in both online and face-to-face instructional formats.
• Provides Reference Services, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Masters in library science, or library and information science OR
• Possession of a California Community College Teaching Credential (valid for life) in Library Science; OR
• The equivalent. • Familiarity with Web and Library 2.0 technologies.
Anticipated Starting Compensation
Starting at $51,971–$70,474 annually, based on documented education and experience. In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate can also earn a Doctoral stipend of $2,850 or a multiple Masters’ stipend of $2,021, if applicable. In addition, the District provides an excellent fringe benefits package, including paid medical and dental coverage for employees and dependents, and a vision plan, life insurance and long-term disability benefits for the employee only. Retirement is the State Teachers’ Retirement System. Participation in tax deferred plans is available. Child care is available at the College at a reduced rate on a space-available basis.
Assignment & Anticipated Start Date
The assigned work year is 175.5 days per academic year. The assignment will include a minimum of 35 scheduled hours per week. When teaching is assigned, release time will be granted proportionately. Selected candidates will participate in campus-wide events beginning August 16, 2010.

Responsibilities. Qualifications. Reporting to the University Librarian, the incumbent provides management of the entire Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant funded project, Virtual Terrapin Station: Blending Traditional and Socially Created Archives for Research, Teaching, and Cultural Enrichment. The Project Manager will be a member of the Grateful Dead Archive team and will be directly responsible for the planning, coordination, design, and execution of the archive exhibition website and community web publishing platform. The Project Manager will oversee communication with the IMLS (the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a grant-making federal agency) including interim and final reports. The Grateful Dead Archive is a multimillion dollar collection that has sparked international interest. This position is responsible for overseeing the creation and implementation of the "Virtual Terrapin Station" that will incorporate digitized content from the archive plus materials contributed from the Deadhead community. Specific responsibilities include the development of a detailed project plan to design the website, digitize material for it, build a rights tracking function, and oversee the development of software to enable the exchange of information between library systems. The Project Manager has responsibility for the timely and successful distribution of over $1.4 million dollars comprised of the original IMLS grant and matching Library funds according to strict rules and deadlines per the general terms and conditions of the grant.
Under general direction of the University Librarian, the Project Manager formulates policy for the project administration and establishes the methods used to attain the goals of the technology project.
Qualifications include:
•Professional degree from a library school or other appropriate degree or equivalent experience in one or more fields relevant to library services
•At least 2-3 years of progressive experience working on digital library team projects in a leadership role, including substantive experience with archival materials in an academic or research library environment
•Demonstrated broad knowledge of project management concepts, practices, standards and processes
•Demonstrated ability to identify key issues critical to the success of a desired product or outcome and develop recommendations and justification for the most productive course of action
•Ability to quickly research and collect pertinent information from related reports and knowledgeable persons, to integrate essential information, and use that information to define and test options and alternatives

York University Libraries seeks a motivated, self-directed, and service-oriented librarian to serve as a member of the Scott Library Reference Department and to provide collections and liaison services for Environmental Studies and Data.

Scott Library, the largest of York University’s libraries, houses a research collection of over two million items in the social sciences, humanities and fine arts that includes government documents, data, sound and moving images, electronic resources, archives and special collections. Along with building collections and offering reference assistance, the Scott Library Reference Department has an active and growing information literacy program, which aims to enable students, faculty, and others to recognize the social context of information, to develop information-seeking behaviours that transcend specific finding tools, and to think critically about information.
The successful candidate will participate in teaching, reference, collection and liaison activities in the Libraries and elsewhere on campus, and in the development of new programs and services. This librarian will have special responsibility for Environmental Studies collection activities, liaison, and information literacy teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also provide research and teaching support in the use of microdata and other data files including use of some statistical software packages.
The chosen candidate will assist students in developing the skills required to locate, evaluate, and use resources effectively; play a role in the ongoing development of information literacy initiatives; support faculty research; participate in special projects, such as assessment, collection reviews, and the development of web-based resources; participate in the shared decision-making of the Reference Department, departmental working groups, committees of the Libraries and of the University; contribute to librarianship by carrying out professional research and/or scholarly work. Some evening and weekend work is required.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• An ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent with up to three years post-MLIS experience
• Educational background in the social sciences or humanities.
• Strong public service ethic and background.
• Understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of Environmental Studies, including its economic, social and political aspects.

Responsibilities: The Director of the online library environment is responsible for leading the investigation and implementation of emerging information technologies as well as managing the daily operations for the Library’s access and delivery applications. The Director will head a newly formed department of technologists and librarians in carrying out this activity.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science or master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Information Sciences or related area. Successful candidates should have demonstrated significant and progressively responsible experience managing positions with a range of technology-specific and administrative responsibilities. The Yale University Library is among the world’s leading research libraries, comprising some 13 million volumes in all media, ranging from ancient papyri to printed books and serials to electronic databases. Reporting to the Provost, with access to the President, the University Librarian will assume the leadership of a complex and historic institution at a time of unprecedented change in the acquisition, dissemination, and preservation of knowledge. North Quad Programming Coordinator
This position will oversee shared spaces in North Quad, including the Media Gateway, a collaborative space located on the South/West 2nd floor, and other common spaces as appropriate. These spaces are where students and faculty engage with one another in order to develop creative strategies to approaching new media. The Media Gateway, with its more public spaces and alcoves, provides informal, spontaneous meeting points and sites for collaboration amongst students, or students and faculty, and is ideally suited for a more casual engagement with technology. Expected activities include small groups of students and/or instructors working together, students work on group assignments, students generating content to be displayed elsewhere in the building, and a place for collaborative activities. The 2nd floor collaborative space, by contrast, is currently planned as a more scheduled and programmed space that will showcase a rich variety of content, such as student and faculty produced work, international news, films and documentaries, and interactive video walls. Sample activities include creating and displaying student projects, hosting design jams, displaying international news/documentaries/short films, interactive and real time interaction with students studying abroad, and hosting performances, exhibits and presentations.
The successful candidate is expected to combine an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree in a related field with significant relevant professional experience in exhibit and program planning; outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills including demonstrated ability to represent programs to the campus and wider community; excellent organizational skills; experience creating web-based exhibits; the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative technology-rich environment accompanied by initiative, self-direction and a commitment to innovation, creativity, and excellence.

Assistant Professor Tenure Track

University Archives Processing Archivist

The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, is one of the largest and most heavily used libraries of manuscripts, rare books, and special collections in the United States. As the primary center of special collections within the library system at Berkeley, Bancroft supports major research and reference activities and plays a leading role in the development of research collections. Bancroft Technical Services (BTS) is the unit responsible for all of the technical operations of the Bancroft Library. BTS employs approximately 35 career and non-career staff and currently manages over fifteen grant-funded projects. BTS operations include: acquisitions, cataloging (original and copy), archival, manuscripts, and pictorial collections processing, and digital archiving. BTS takes a leadership role in setting national standards for technical processing, digital access, and digital archiving of rare books, archives, and special collections materials. A significant percentage of BTS processing and digital archiving projects is funded by grants or donors, leading BTS actively to partner with other campus and library units and with a variety of institutions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, the state, and the nation.
Responsibilities
The Bancroft Library’s University Archives Processing Archivist reports to the Head of Bancroft Technical Services and is responsible for University Archives (UARC) and History of Science and Technology faculty collections that must be processed, arranged and described. These include both personal papers and administrative records covering a variety of topics and subject areas. The archivist works with the UARC Team to assist with the development and implementation of the records inventory instrument, field visits to campus offices, development of the inventory database, data input of survey results, analysis of the record reports, and creation of retention and disposition schedules.
The archivist has full responsibility for managing processing projects and supervising staff, which includes processing archivists, support staff, student assistants, and volunteers. He/she establishes priorities for arrangement and description of the collections, including the processing plans and finding aid structures. The archivist manages the unit workflow and work schedules, and establishes mechanisms for timely turn-around of such collections. He/she hires and trains unit student staff and edits/reviews unit staff work-product, especially the re-housing of the collections, labeling, and creation of finding aids and other descriptions. He/she plans the goals for collection processing and develops processing plans for specific collections in coordination with unit staff and curators in determining order, specificity, and appropriate level of description and analysis. He/she works with the University Archivists in the preservation assessment of collections and in selection of materials for conservation treatment. The archivist works with the BTS staff on appraisal of collections and administration of new acquisitions.
Qualifications:
Required:
-MLS from an accredited library school with coursework in archival administration and experience in an archival repository.
-Demonstrated knowledge and experience with processing, arrangement, and description of personal papers, organizational records, and University administrative records.
-Prior experience with development of completed finding aids.
-Knowledge of DACS, MARC, and application of an EAD encoding tool like EAD Express or WebGenDB.
Preferred:
-Familiarity with UC Berkeley administrative and faculty organization and functions.
-Familiarity with Bancroft Library cataloging, arrangement and description.
-Experience with document imaging projects which involve Electronic Document Management Software (EDMS), such as ImageNow software.
-Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, initiative and flexibility.
-Strong commitment to excellence in service and demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a complex, changing environment.
-The successful candidate will show evidence of effective project planning, management, and completion.

Access Positions
CIRCULATION LIBRARIAN
Responsibilities: The Circulation Librarian is responsible for providing excellent customer service at the combined circulation and reference service point (Help Desk). The librarian will work closely with the Reference Desk Manager to ensure training is up-to-date and referrals are handled correctly. In addition, the librarian oversees stacks management and retrieval. The position requires mature judgment and supervisory skills, as well as a solid knowledge of unit policies and procedures and the Libraries’ integrated library system. The Circulation Librarian will play a central role in making the Help Desk be more responsive to users’ needs and expectations through the assessment of existing services and implementation of new services. The librarian will also work with the Head of Access and the Technical Specialist in finding ways to use technology to improve customer service and streamline operations at the Help Desk.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN AND RESERVES LIBRARIAN
Responsibilities: The Interlibrary Loan and Reserves Librarian oversees the interlibrary lending and borrowing, local and consortial requesting, and course reserves operations. The librarian develops policies, procedures and workflows for the interlibrary loan and reserves operations including copyright compliance. The librarian is responsible for training and supervising staff and student assistants and monitoring operations to ensure greater efficiencies and workload distribution. The Interlibrary Loan and Reserves Librarian will play a central role in finding new ways to be responsive to users’ needs and expectations through the assessment of existing operations and implementation of new services. In particular, the librarian will work closely with the Acquisition staff and subject librarians to find the most effective way to obtain materials for users. The librarian will also work with Head of Access and the Technical Specialist to explore new possibilities for using technology to improve and streamline operations. The supervisor is knowledgeable of a variety of software applications, including but not limited to Millennium, ArticleReach, MOBIUS INN-Reach, ILLiad, and the course management system (Ares).

Job Description: Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for the position of Director for The Wittliff Collections, Albert B. Alkek Library. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, University Library, the Director will provide overall leadership and management for the Collections primary components: the Southwestern Writers Collection, the Southwestern and Mexican Photography Collection, and other special collections.

Acquisitions and Serials Department Head

With a materials budget of $3.8 million, split almost evenly between print and electronic resources, the Acquisitions & Serials Department Head will lead 7 FTE staff in the procurement and management of all collection materials for the William H. Hannon Library. The department acquires 18,000 books annually and subscribes to 1800 print periodicals, 22,300 e-journals and over 200 e-resources. The Head manages the acquisitions, serials, and electronic resources functions of the library, including oversight of expenditures against the library’s materials budgets.
Other position specific accountabilities are as follows: Develop effective utilization of technology to streamline workflow and processes; manage personnel including training and development; establish effective vendor relationships; coordinate budgeting and financial management for library materials funds; and represent LMU at various conferences and meetings pertaining to library acquisitions and technologies.
The ideal candidate must have broad knowledge of current trends in higher education, academic libraries, and the publishing industry, and an understanding of the issues of content ownership vs. access, including e-resource licensing. The successful candidate will be creative, flexible, and collaborative. Other skills and knowledge include: ability to analyze work processes and introduce appropriate technological solutions for efficiency and user convenience; strong financial management skill, and excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to win the trust and confidence of faculty, librarians, and library staff. Experience with these technologies preferred: Innovative Interfaces, Inc., Serials Solutions, and OCLC PromptCat.
A Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution is preferred, but a related master’s degree with appropriate experience may be substituted. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible academic library acquisitions and/or serials experience that includes supervision is required.
Hiring Salary: $59,880 to $80,000 commensurate with experience and salary history.

The Reference/Web Development Librarian is solely responsible for managing the library’s web site and the custom-created content management system that drives it.
