The School of Library and Information Studies at University of Oklahoma is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to begin fall 2012 whose research, teaching, and service contributes to the educational, professional, and personal success of children and youth. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of the issues young people encounter living in a digitally connected society and be interested in contributing to the knowledge of 21^st Century Literacies.

Requirements for the position include a doctoral degree (completed or nearly completed) in library and information science or a related field, a record of published research or demonstrated research potential, ability to work with multiple constituencies, and ability to deliver courses related to library and information services for children and youth.

Preferred qualifications include experience/demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats. Additionally knowledge of and/or experience in the application of the American Association of School Librarians and/or the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Standards are preferred.

Metadata Librarian, Assistant Professor

Oregon State University Libraries seeks a collaborative, innovative and service-oriented librarian to enhance and maintain the metadata infrastructure of the libraries to facilitate the discovery, use and preservation of digital information. The librarian joins an agile and innovative library that is responsible for the development of ScholarsArchive@OSU (the 4^th ranked single-university repository in the U.S.), internationally recognized digital collections, the Oregon Explorer natural resources digital library, the LibraryFind metasearch application, the Library à la Carte Content Management System and other digital initiatives. Oregon State University Libraries seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented librarian to lead a new department focused on user-centered collection services and programs. This department brings together the operations related to ensuring that library users readily have the information they need for learning, teaching and research. The ideal Head of the CRSD brings experience across library operations, a passion for libraries, and a desire to help departmental staff and faculty meet library users’ expectations and needs. The Department Head directs the expenditure of the Libraries’ approximately $5 million materials budget, supervises 7.0 faculty FTE and has oversight for a department with approximately 20.0 classified FTE across the 4 units which comprise the Department:  Collection Development, Acquisitions, Interlibrary Loan, and Access Services (Circulation and Collection Maintenance). The Department Head leads a variety of initiatives related to collaborative and user-driven collection building, resource sharing, document delivery, and access services. She/he monitors trends in acquisitions, resource sharing, access services and collection development. 

The Department Head tracks issues surrounding scholarly communication and works with other OSU librarians to communicate these issues within the Library and to campus faculty. In consultation with the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Content Management and CRSD unit heads, the Department Head develops policy pertaining to collection development, acquisitions, access services, and resource sharing. The Department Head determines strategic directions for the Department, establishes departmental goals, and encourages and tracks goal progress. Assistant Professor Tenure Track

The School of Library & Information Studies, College of Communication & Information Sciences, at The University of Alabama, announces an opening for the position of assistant professor (tenure-track). This is a new faculty position.

New faculty members have a considerable opportunity to shape the character and direction of the School as it continues to integrate the traditions of librarianship with new technologies. The successful tenure-track candidate will be actively engaged in research, have an interdisciplinary approach to teaching graduate students, possess the ability to work with multiple constituencies, be able to teach in the SLIS core curriculum, and possess an earned doctorate. Work history in a library or another information environment or related experience is desirable.

Applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas are of particular interest:

• Information sources and services, to include e-reference, sources and services in specialized areas (government documents, business, etc.), and information literacy programming

• Practice and management in areas such as preservation and conservation, archives and special collections, and digitization

• Organization of information in areas such as cataloging, metadata, and indexing and abstracting

The School, with 14 faculty members, offers an ALA-accredited Master’s program, an MFA program in the book arts, doctoral courses that contribute to a multidisciplinary doctorate in communication and information sciences, and undergraduate courses in information science. The School is selective in admissions for all program options, and the MLIS program ranks among the top 25 programs in North America.

SLIS faculty research interests include digital libraries; information retrieval; human-computer interaction; user interface design; video retrieval; history of small presses and related publishing; electronic publishing; culturally diverse populations; education for library and information studies; analysis of large data sets; bibliometrics; library history; scholarly communication; corporate culture in academic library management; social conception of knowledge through cultural evolution; k-12 education policy; role of classification for collaborative organization of web resources; health librarianship and informatics; and social disconnects in information technology, access, and design. Creative activities focus on collaboration between letterpress printer, author, artist, and hand bookbinder; and materials and techniques of historic bookbinding structures.

Responsibilities include: Original and complex copy cataloging and classification of monographs and continuing resources for Kentucky Library special collections; shared responsibility for foreign language materials and authority file maintenance; participation in special cataloging projects as needed.

Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited program with an undergraduate degree in social sciences; skill with current and developing cataloging and metadata rules and standards, LC subject headings and classification, authority control, and MARC formats through coursework or job experience; reading knowledge of a foreign language; working knowledge of OCLC and an integrated library system (VOYAGER preferred); ability to work within a team environment. The McIntyre Library at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has a probationary tenure track faculty vacancy available at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Assistant Director of Libraries with an anticipated start date in spring 2009. This is a 12-month, full-time, probationary tenure track faculty position reporting to the Director of Libraries.

McIntyre Library has a staff of 12.50 FTE library faculty, and 17 FTE classified staff. The Library maintains a very active information literacy program, provides access to a wide range of digital resources, is a selective state and federal document depository, and includes a regional historical research center and university archives. McIntyre Library has a collection of almost 600,000 titles, 2 million volumes, and 17,000 online and print periodical subscriptions; and works closely with other UW System libraries in keeping with the “One System, One Library” approach to the delivery of collections and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director serves as a member of the administrative team providing leadership and direction for McIntyre Library.
This position also has specific responsibilities for supervision of access departments (circulation, reserves, stack maintenance, and interlibrary loan), oversight of student assistant budgets, and continued development and assessment of the Library Strategic Plan.
Coordinates public relations and marketing.
Serves as liaison to university academic departments including information literacy instruction, and participates in reference desk rotation.

Fulfill faculty responsibilities by:
Serving on appropriate Library, campus and UW System committees.
Pursuing continued study, scholarly activities, and creative work.
Participating in professional and community service activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
ALA accredited MLS or international equivalent.
Five years professional experience in an academic library.

Demonstrated ability to engage in scholarly and professional development activities at the level necessary to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.

Preferred:
Knowledge of the administrative, managerial and financial practices of an academic library.

Adelphi University seeks an Assistant Professor tenure track as a Reference/Education Librarian to be responsible for the reference desk service, collection development, management of the Library’s Curriculum Materials Center, participation in library instruction, and participation in other responsibilities shared by Library faculty. Applicants must hold a master’s degree from an ALA accredited school of library/information science. A second master’s or similar proof of advanced study is required for promotion to Associate Professor and tenure. Degree or coursework in the field of education is desirable.
