The University of Virginia Library seeks a Metadata Librarian for Cataloging and Metadata Services.  The University of Virginia Library is place of infinite possibility! We are seeking an individual who can provide metadata expertise and serve as the primary resource on non-MARC metadata design, structure and standards for the Library, as well as the larger university community. The incumbent will establish, document and maintain metadata policies, as appropriate; coordinates the translation of metadata between formats and participate in the integration of metadata from a variety of sources for search and display. This individual will also collaborate in the design and implementation of projects, workflows, and training involving non-MARC metadata, and create, edit, and manipulate metadata for resource description in the digital repository, library catalog, and other resources.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree in Library/Information science or other Master's degree.

Required: At least two years of practical experience with non-MARC metadata in a library environment. Demonstrated experience with multiple relevant XML-based standards (e.g. Dublin Core, MODS, VRA Core, METS, PREMIS). Demonstrated leadership or project management experience in a work setting. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across groups to achieve objectives. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills.  Preferred:  Knowledge of digital repository systems. Demonstrated experience in the transformation of XML documents using XSLT. Knowledge of linked data and semantic web concepts. Knowledge of current cataloging rules, standards and Library of Congress subject headings.

Salary and Benefits:  Competitive depending on qualifications. This position has general faculty status with excellent benefits, including 22 days of vacation and TIAA/CREF and other retirement plans. You have the ability to understand how metadata is mapped and transformed as it travels between discovery, delivery and decision support systems.

The librarian joins an agile and innovative library that is responsible for the development of ScholarsArchive@OSU (the 4^th ranked single-university repository in the U.S.), internationally recognized digital collections, the Oregon Explorer natural resources digital library, the LibraryFind metasearch application, the Library à la Carte Content Management System and other digital initiatives. The Metadata Librarian is part of the Libraries’ new Center for Digital Scholarship and Services and reports to the head of the center. The center provides services to support the creation, organization, management and use of digital scholarship.

Northeastern University Libraries seeks a dynamic, energetic, knowledgeable and self-motivated librarian to join its dedicated, innovative, and service-oriented staff.

The Metadata Librarian, as part of the Metadata Management Department, will provide metadata for analog and digital resources in all subject areas using a wide array of metadata schema and content standards including RDA (Northeastern is an RDA National Test site). The Metadata Librarian should be familiar with and have expertise in various metadata schema, controlled vocabularies, content standards, and encoding methods. The Metadata Librarian will be responsible for managing and supervising metadata projects and will work closely with the new Digital Library Management program and emerging services for the campus.

Qualifications: ALA accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science required; cataloging or metadata experience preferred; demonstrated knowledge of established and emerging national and international metadata standards, metadata schemas, and the latest trends and issues in libraries and information science. The successful candidate should have excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal, communication, supervisory, and project management skills as well as a strong service orientation, technical aptitude, and a demonstrated commitment to staff development and diversity in the workplace.
