Instructional Design Librarian

Job Duties:  The B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library of LIU-Post seeks an Instructional Design Librarian to support student learning by working in partnership with library and teaching faculty to develop, design, implement and maintain general and course-specific library instruction materials, including but not limited to online learning objects and instructional modules.  The successful candidate will identify the information needs of both on-campus and blended/distance learning students, facilitate the integration and use of library literacy materials in course management systems and other online environments, and assess student learning outcomes.  The successful candidate must be able to learn, critically evaluate, and troubleshoot new technologies related to online teaching and learning to meet changing user needs, and support and train librarians and staff in the use of such technologies.  The librarian will also develop and conduct online and in-person library instruction sessions and may serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments.  Scheduled hours at the reference desk, including some evenings and weekend work, are required.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively and closely with the Coordinator of Instruction and the Instructional Technology Librarian to support the teaching and learning initiatives of the library.  The Instructional Design Librarian is a tenure-track, faculty status position.

Qualifications:   MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited library school and at least three years of public service, including instructional experience, in an academic library.  Knowledge of applications and technologies used in higher education instruction, including course management systems.  Coursework, degree, or experience in instructional design and/or educational technology, including knowledge of basic instructional design concepts (ADDIE, etc.).   Demonstrated interest in scholarly communication initiatives.  Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.  Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and users.  Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.   Ability to achieve tenure through effective job performance, service, and scholarship.   Additional graduate degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related field.  Demonstrated knowledge of production tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity, and Camtasia).  Familiarity with ACRL Standards for Information Literacy.

Job Duties:  B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library of LIU Post seeks a knowledgeable, innovative, and energetic leader to serve as Head of Reference Services.  The successful candidate will combine leadership and an outstanding customer service ethos with the ability to coordinate and develop programs for effective and innovative delivery of reference services, while supervising a faculty of full-time and adjunct librarians, and several support staff.  The Head of Reference Services will work closely with the Coordinator of Instruction and the Instructional Technology Librarian to provide leadership in implementing information literacy initiatives.  The candidate must possess strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate a team, develop plans, and set goals; must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills and have some experience with assessment methodologies.  The person will balance strong organizational and supervisory skills with the enthusiasm to initiate and support innovation and be visionary and innovative in his or her approach to management and service provision.  This tenure-track, faculty status position will report to an Assistant Dean within the library

Qualifications:   Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution is required; a minimum of three years of progressively responsible library experience in public services is required, preferably in an academic institution; supervisory experience is required; experience in teaching in a library instruction program is required.  Second Master’s degree or 30 additional graduate credits preferred.

Associate Librarian for User Services

Dartmouth College Library seeks a forward-thinking, innovative individual with a strong service ethic to join its senior leadership team and to direct, lead, and administer major programs with Dartmouth-wide visibility and impact. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Librarian for User Services will work closely with the senior administrative team to articulate a vision for 21st-century library services and will ensure successful delivery and evaluation of innovative programs and resources.  The Associate Librarian will communicate and collaborate with staff, students, faculty, alumni, and leadership of other constituent groups to establish goals and priorities. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS or another applicable graduate degree required, with an additional advanced graduate degree in a relevant area preferred. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in academic or research libraries, including substantial supervisory and management experience. Department Head, Digital Library Services


Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, service-oriented and dynamic head of Digital Library Services who will provide leadership and management for web services, network and desktop systems, and digital initiatives. The Digital Library Services Department Head, reporting to the Associate Dean, Digital Library Services and Special Collections, leads a department consisting of two library faculty and five staff members, and serves on the library administrative team that provides overall direction for the library in fulfilling the research, teaching, and service mission of the University.

The department head sets direction for the library’s technology environment and services through strategic planning, resource allocation and management, assessment, and policy development. S/he encourages creativity in digital and information technology initiatives that respond to and anticipate user needs and ensures that the library’s technology programs, services, and infrastructure are responsive to the academic needs of the Georgia State University community.

  • Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and reports on the work of the department

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: ALA-accredited Master’s degree, or a terminal degree in a relevant area or discipline. Five years of increasingly responsible experience in management of information technology and technology services with at least 3 years in an academic library or college or university setting. Supervisory experience. Ability to think critically and analytically. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a collegial and collaborative environment. Commitment to user-oriented service. Evidence of professional activity and scholarship appropriate for faculty appointment at assistant professor level or above.

PREFERRED: Demonstrated experience as an effective project manager. Knowledge of and experience with network and storage architectures, systems administration, web services and integration of technology systems and services. Salary and Rank
$65,000-$75,000 for 12 months commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
