ARIZONA HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA IN TUCSON


The Arizona Health Sciences Library (AHSL) at the University of Arizona in Tucson is seeking an Information Services Librarian to work in partnership with other librarians, staff and clientele as the liaison librarian to the College of Medicine. The College of Medicine liaison librarian will develop and deliver information services and instructional programming primarily for College of Medicine faculty, students, trainees and researchers. Position also involves working with the Interprofessional Education Program, developing curriculum materials and conducting literature research.  This is full-time, twelve-month, year to year appointment. Title: Instructor or Assistant Professor / Information Services Librarian

Location/Department: Library

Position Description and Duties:
Reporting to the Head of Information Services, the Information Services Librarian works as one of a team of ten librarians. The Information Services Librarian provides both traditional and online reference services, library and related research instruction, and information literacy services. This Librarian will collect print, electronic and multimedia resources in selected disciplines and provide tailored discipline-related services to faculty and students in those departments of the College and related work as assigned. It should be noted that the work schedule during the academic year includes participation in the regular weekend and evening rotations.

Qualifications Requirements:
A.L.A. accredited master’s degree in library and information science (for appointment as an instructor); a second master’s in a subject area (for appointment at the rank of assistant professor); reference services experience; excellent interpersonal skills; a commitment to innovative and effective user-centered services; knowledge of current trends in scholarly communication and information technologies; superior oral and written skills; ability to work effectively on shared projects and department and college committees. The successful candidate will show evidence of productive teamwork, creativity, initiative, and flexibility, and the ability to meet the publication requirements for tenure and promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years of related professional work experience, preferably in an academic library. Knowledge of and experience with current instructional theories and principles applicable to various types of online instruction or e-learning, preferably in a higher education context. Preferred skills include experience with instructional design, digital video, podcasting, and/or Web design is highly desirable.

Please note that the subject area of the undergraduate degree or the subject masters is open, but preference may be given to candidates with a background in educational technology, instructional design, online learning, or a related field, or with a subject background in the sciences.

Information Services Librarian

GENERAL INFORMATION

The University of Southern California (USC) Norris Medical Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for a reference librarian position. The Norris Medical Library is an academic research library serving the Schools and Departments of Medicine, Pharmacy, Occupational and Physical Therapy. The library has a strong emphasis on providing access to a wide variety of electronic information resources, and educating faculty, students, and staff through seminars on Internet resources, presentation software, database searching, evidence-based health care, personal digital assistants, and bibliographic management. RESPONSIBILITIES

· Participate in all reference and information services, including reference desk, consultation services, performing online searches, assisting users to develop search strategies, and answering online reference questions. Share responsibility for updating library web pages.
· Participate in an extensive program for user education with emphasis on developing course content and materials for providing instruction in computer-based information systems, the Internet, and the use of library resources. Provide curriculum-based class instruction in informatics and evidence-based medicine for medical and other health sciences students and grading student assignments.
· Participate in library’s liaison program by promoting information resources and library services and initiating new programs for those in the clinical setting.
· Take part in special projects, e.g., the promotion of personal digital assistants among health care professionals; the development of web tutorials and educational modules to expand our educational program to on-demand instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS MLS from an ALA-accredited library school. Strong oral and written communication and computer skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and adult learners. Demonstrated creativity and initiative. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

SALARY/STATUS Beginning salary between $48,500 - $54,500 depending on experience. This position is in a continuing-appointment track, the USC Libraries equivalent to tenure.
