Associate Librarian for User Services

Dartmouth College Library seeks a forward-thinking, innovative individual with a strong service ethic to join its senior leadership team and to direct, lead, and administer major programs with Dartmouth-wide visibility and impact. This position is responsible for library programs and departments that have direct user engagement, including Access Services, Education and Outreach, Feldberg Business and Engineering Library, Kresge Physical Sciences Library, Paddock Music Library, Rauner Special Collections Library, and Research and Instructional Services.

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Librarian for User Services will work closely with the senior administrative team to articulate a vision for 21st-century library services and will ensure successful delivery and evaluation of innovative programs and resources.  The Associate Librarian will communicate and collaborate with staff, students, faculty, alumni, and leadership of other constituent groups to establish goals and priorities. In addition, the Associate Librarian for User Services leads the development of the Library’s web presence, leads planning of Library spaces to respond to changing user needs, contributes to developing strategic communications, and represents the Library locally and nationally in a variety of settings.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS or another applicable graduate degree required, with an additional advanced graduate degree in a relevant area preferred. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in academic or research libraries, including substantial supervisory and management experience. The successful candidate will have proven leadership, management, and strong interpersonal skills which encourage teamwork, collaboration, relationship building, and mentoring; a passion for learning; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to cultivate a strong service ethic; demonstrated capacity to foster and manage change in a fast-paced environment; and strong problem-solving skills.

RANK AND SALARY: The position is part of the Departmental/Division Leadership A
(DDL A) rank. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days; comprehensive health care; retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; and relocation assistance.
