Reference Librarian

Responsibilities:

The University of Alabama Health Sciences Library, College of Community Health Sciences, is seeking a creative and innovative health sciences librarian with technical skills for the position of Reference Librarian.  Responsibilities include providing reference service, research consultation, online searching, instruction to users and reference assistance; providing education on the use of the library and its resources, including individual, classroom, web-based and customized instruction; participating in collection development of both print and electronic resources; participating in website content development; serving as a member of the Health Science Library's management team, participating in the formation and implementation of library policies and procedures and long range strategic planning; compiling statistics on reference services usage; assisting with instruction of students from the School of Library and Information Studies; providing consumer health information and instruction to area residents; developing instructional publications in various formats; orienting new faculty, residents, students, and staff; participating in library outreach activities; representing the Health Sciences Library on college, university and community committees, as appropriate; participating in professional associations.

Qualifications:

Required – ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in computer, Internet, and Web applications; attention to detail; strong commitment to teamwork; demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies; capability for multi-tasking responsibilities; commitment to professional growth and development, and willingness to participate in relevant professional activities. Creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor are essential.

Preferred – 2 years reference experience in a health sciences library, skill in teaching adult learners, experience searching biomedical   literature and academic databases including PubMed, demonstrated enthusiasm and aptitude for emerging technologies, and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

               

The ideal candidate will have a strong public service orientation, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a rapidly changing environment, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of library staff and patrons, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Salary/Benefits:

Reference Librarian Leslie Frost Library

Reference Librarian, Leslie Frost Library – 8 month Contractually Limited Appointment

York University Libraries seek a fluently bilingual (French and English) service-oriented librarian with excellent communication skills to fill the position of reference librarian in the Leslie Frost Library. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, creative and self-motivated person who works well with colleagues in a dynamic environment.

York University Libraries consist of a large central library and three branch libraries, one of which is the Leslie Frost Library on the Glendon campus. The Frost Library serves a population of approximately 2,800 students and faculty.

The chosen candidate will provide reference assistance in the social sciences and humanities to undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty; instruct library users individually and in groups; provide research support in the use of data; liaise with faculty members; participate in collections development and maintenance; participate in the creation and maintenance of web based resources for research and learning; participate in departmental working groups and committees of the Libraries and of the University; contribute to librarianship and scholarship by carrying out professional research and/or scholarly work. Some evening and weekend work and travel between campuses is required.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• An ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent with up to four years post-MLIS experience.
• Educational background in the social sciences or humanities.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in both French and English, including demonstrated skills in teaching, training, and public communications in both languages.
• Demonstrated ability to provide excellent reference service.
• Broad knowledge of print and electronic information resources relevant to the social sciences and humanities.
• Familiarity with statistical databases and software applications
• A strong public service ethic and/or background.
• Demonstrated understanding of the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy instruction and ability to teach in a variety of settings and formats.
• Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services.
• Evidence of professional initiative and leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a diverse population of faculty, librarians, staff, and students.
• Interest in university committee work, research, and professional development.

This is an 8 month contractually-limited appointment with the designation of Adjunct Librarian and appropriate for a librarian with up to four years post-MLS experience. Librarians at York University have academic status and are members of the York University Faculty Association bargaining unit (http://www.yufa.org/). Salary is commensurate with qualifications. The position is available from September 1, 2010. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

Reference Librarian

The Health Sciences Library at SUNY Upstate Medical University invites applications for the position of Reference Librarian. This position reports to the Head of Reference and Liaison Services. REQUIRED: ALA accredited Master’s degree in library or information sciences or commensurate degree with relevant experience. Oakland University’s Kresge Library seeks a creative and energetic librarian to join us in advancing a student-centered information literacy program within a team-oriented, teaching library environment. This librarian will participate in course-integrated and course-related information literacy instruction and teaching, reference and research services, and collection development. With the creation of an Information Commons and a Technology Learning Center in 2009, the library will have an enhanced role in online learning. Assistant/Associate Professor/Reference Librarian (2 positions)

Boise State University seeks proactive and innovative librarians, to become a part of our team to continue our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction. The Reference Librarian positions will provide reference services; participate in collection development as the liaison to academic departments; and have responsibility for bibliographic instruction and orientation sessions

Responsibilities include:
· outreach to faculty and students
· participation in general instruction and reference activities
· occasional late evening and rotating weekend reference desk duty

Minimum qualifications:
· Masters Degree from an ALA accredited program;
· good communication skills;
· the ability to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships with library and university faculty and staff.
