The St. Louis Public Library, a nationally recognized library system, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with others.
This position is responsible for overall leadership and direction of the library's technology infrastructure, which includes web development, digital library applications, hardware and software identification, evaluation, and implementation, developing annual budgets for system technology, and initiatives to help the library innovate through technology.
This position reports directly to the Library’s Deputy Director and is a member of the management team. The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to work closely with the Executive Director and other members of the management team to facilitate and implement long-range system planning. Must have the ability to identify current and future technology needs of the Library and the community and to create plans to adapt and improve current technology for use in libraries.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of current technology and library applications. Must also be capable of learning to negotiate SirsiDynix Symphony, the integrated library system. Working experience with metadata standards, digital capture standards, and intellectual property issues is preferred.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Science, computer science, or related discipline, or commensurate experience, including at least 5 years of successful and progressively responsible IT experience including supervision and performance evaluation of staff. Experience with library management systems, vendors and solutions is preferred.
