Associate University Librarian for Collection Services (AULCS)

RESPONSIBILITIES: The AULCS provides leadership and direction for a major division of the Northwestern University Library, the units of which are engaged in acquisitions, cataloging, serials control, preservation, electronic resources management, collection analysis, digital library and digital repository development activities. Plans, manages, administers, and is accountable for use of the library’s materials budget. In collaboration with other key administrators, leads in the development and management of collections. Advises and assists the University Librarian in all aspects of library management and administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA accredited master's degree in library or information science; minimum seven years increasing responsibility in an academic or research library; demonstrated achievement in the management of technical services, collection development, and collections budget operations; excellent communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, and collaboration skills. Librarian and Assistant/Associate Professor

Albertsons Library, Boise State University, invites applications for a full-time 12-month, tenure-track Librarian and Assistant/Associate Professor position. The Librarian will participate in outreach and research assistance as the liaison to academic departments and provide reference and instructional services. The position report to the Head, Instruction and Research Services.

Responsibilities include:
·         user-oriented outreach to faculty and students;
·         provide extensive reference, instructional and research services for faculty and students in a technologically advanced information environment; and
·         establish and maintain strong liaison program with academic departments.

Minimum qualifications:
·         masters degree from an ALA accredited program;
·         excellent communications skills, including verbal, written, virtual, and interpersonal;
·         ability to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff;
·         high degree of initiative and flexibility;
·         ability to learn new technical skills quickly;
·         ability to meet deadlines;
·         strong service orientation; and
·         demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Preferred qualifications:
·         degree, significant coursework, or extensive knowledge and background in business, science, or other departmental liaison subject areas needed by the Library at the time of candidate review;
·         one to three years evidence of innovative instruction and teaching;
·         one to three years experience as an academic department liaison supporting the needs of faculty, students, and staff;
·         understanding of and familiarity with mobile learning technologies; and
·         demonstrated ability to meet criteria for promotion and tenure.
                       
Salary and benefits:  Salary based on qualifications.  Minimum $42,000 with a comprehensive benefit package.  This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, tenure-track position with faculty status and academic rank.  Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant Professor rank, but candidates with additional experience may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Head of Collections and Resource Sharing, Assistant Professor


Head of Collections and Resource Sharing, Assistant Professor, OSU Libraries, Oregon State University

Oregon State University Libraries seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented librarian to lead a new department focused on user-centered collection services and programs. This department brings together the operations related to ensuring that library users readily have the information they need for learning, teaching and research. The ideal Head of the CRSD brings experience across library operations, a passion for libraries, and a desire to help departmental staff and faculty meet library users’ expectations and needs. The Department Head directs the expenditure of the Libraries’ approximately $5 million materials budget, supervises 7.0 faculty FTE and has oversight for a department with approximately 20.0 classified FTE across the 4 units which comprise the Department:  Collection Development, Acquisitions, Interlibrary Loan, and Access Services (Circulation and Collection Maintenance). The Department Head leads a variety of initiatives related to collaborative and user-driven collection building, resource sharing, document delivery, and access services. She/he monitors trends in acquisitions, resource sharing, access services and collection development. 

The Department Head tracks issues surrounding scholarly communication and works with other OSU librarians to communicate these issues within the Library and to campus faculty. In consultation with the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Content Management and CRSD unit heads, the Department Head develops policy pertaining to collection development, acquisitions, access services, and resource sharing. The Department Head determines strategic directions for the Department, establishes departmental goals, and encourages and tracks goal progress. The Department Head is a member of the Libraries’ management team and contributes to the overall planning, management and leadership of the Libraries.

Youth Services Librarian


St. Louis Public Library has an opening for a Youth Services Librarian.   Candidates must have an ALA Accredited MLS in Library Science.  Experience in youth services and storytelling skills desirable.  Knowledge of child development and children’s literature is essential.  Experience with children and teens is a plus. 

The person in this position schedules, plans and presents programs in the branch as well as in schools, head starts, daycares, parent and teacher groups, etc.  Provides reference assistance to children and youth.  Assists children and adults with computers, including Internet access.  Position requires use of personal vehicle to travel to various locations for outreach programs. 

This position requires flexibility and good written and verbal communication skills.  Must be able to work with children of all ages, and possess sound judgment. This individual must be able to establish rapport with co-workers, patrons and staff in daycare centers, headstarts, and a busy neighborhood library serving a diverse multicultural clientele.  Prepares deposit collections and assists with collection development and maintenance.  Maintains statistics and community contacts.  Supervises homework helpers and volunteers.  Manages department in the absence of the Manager.  May assist with system-wide projects as assigned and serve on Youth Services and system committees.

Coordinator, Library Services to Health and Natural Sciences


Position and Responsibilities:
Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, and service-oriented manager and librarian to plan, implement, and evaluate services to undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty within departments, schools, and institutes in the health and natural sciences. The sciences and health research are identified as key growth areas in the University’s proposed Strategic Plan. The Coordinator is responsible for leading the effort to further define, develop, and enhance library outreach within a growing research university and for working collaboratively with university and library communities to deliver services and collections. Working in a team-based and interdisciplinary environment, the Coordinator:
·         Leads a team of 5-7 subject librarians in all outreach services to the health and natural sciences, including, but not limited to, instruction, research assistance, and collection development
·         Coordinates and works closely with librarians to promote library resources and services across multiple departments, schools, and institutes
·         Assesses needs and use patterns of undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty
·         Evaluates instruction delivered to departments, schools, and institutes
·         Coordinates librarian outreach and instruction as they relate to campus curricular and learning initiatives (e.g., Critical Thinking Through Writing)
·         Provides statistics, reports, and analysis on librarian involvement on campus
The Coordinator maintains an awareness of trends in library outreach and instruction, has a strong commitment to students’ academic success, and promotes the use of emerging technologies in reaching learners and researchers both within and beyond the physical library. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Public Services, the Coordinator works collaboratively within a team of 5 Public Services Coordinators to implement, support, and evaluate innovative services and programs for all students and faculty.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
·         ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science
·         Commitment to innovative and successful user-centered services
·         Minimum of 2 years progressive management and supervisory experience
·         Evidence of professional activity and scholarship appropriate for faculty appointment at assistant professor level or above
·         Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
·         Ability to pass a background check

PREFERRED:
·         Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in health or natural sciences
  • Experience in providing research support in an academic library environment

Salary and Rank
Minimum salary of $55,000 for 12 months.  Salary commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience.  Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
