Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, service-oriented, and dynamic blended librarian and manager to lead online learning and research initiatives in a fast-paced and innovative setting. The Coordinator is responsible for leading the effort to further define online learning and research support for a growing research university and for working collaboratively with library and university communities to deliver those services. Working in a team-based environment, the Coordinator
• Leads library personnel in using the latest technologies for learning and research;
• Manages the library’s virtual reference services and explores ways of expanding virtual outreach and communication to the campus community;
• Helps design and manage the production and use of next-generation e-learning tools, including online learning objects and tutorials;
• Assesses learning outcomes;
• Collaborates with campus technology groups and committees on a broad range of curricular initiatives;
The Coordinator has a strong commitment to students’ success and promotes the use of emerging technologies in reaching learners and researchers beyond the physical library. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Public Services, he/she works to implement services and programs for students and faculty that stimulate the creative and innovate use of new technologies (social media, multimedia, cloud collaboration, CMS, etc.) across the curriculum, with particular focus on information literacy goals and Critical Thinking Through Writing initiatives. The successful candidate coordinates online learning and virtual reference services (IM, chat) involving all Public Services librarians, with a minimum of 3 library faculty and 2 library staff members reporting directly to the Coordinator.

Since its 2007 renovation, the Georgia State University Library provides one of the most attractive, open and inviting educational facilities in the Southeast. Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science
• Commitment to innovative and successful user-centered services
• Experience in delivering library instruction, research assistance, and other services in an online environment
• Experience in developing online tutorials and other learning objects
• Knowledge of virtual reference services, including IM/chat applications used in libraries
• Knowledge of applications and technologies used in higher education instruction, including course management systems
• Evidence of professional activity and scholarship appropriate for faculty appointment at assistant professor level or above
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to pass a background check
PREFERRED:
• Instructional technology and/or design experience in higher education
• Coursework or degree in instructional technology and/or design
• Experience supervising librarians and staff in a team-based environment

COORDINATOR OF EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
Position Description: Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, the Coordinator of Education and Research is responsible for all aspects of reference including clinical and research support services and oversight of the Library’s liaison program. The incumbent:
Supervises six librarians and one library assistant
Establishes policies, procedures, priorities and goals for the Education and Research unit;
Oversees Education and Research unit activities, work assignments, and special projects;
Plans, develops and assesses programs, services and policies designed for users;
Coordinates, develops, promotes and assesses the library liaison program;
Oversees consultations, reference and research assistance including staff training;
Monitors and stays abreast of reference trends and practices in health sciences libraries;
Monitors and stays abreast of education (information literacy) trends and practices;
Serves on committees at the five health colleges and the affiliated hospital;
Serves on University Libraries’ committees; and
Contributes to and learns from the profession through such avenues as local, state and national professional organizations and publications.
Qualifications:
Required:
ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science or foreign equivalent;
Three years post-Masters experience in a health sciences or life sciences library;
Supervisory experience;
Knowledge of trends and practices in instruction, reference services and information access;
Experience providing advanced information services, including searching biomedical literature and full-text databases;
Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Strong customer service and public services orientation;
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team; and
Demonstrated involvement in an area or areas of professional interest that will enhance the candidate's value to the Libraries, the University, the profession of librarianship, or the scholarly community.
Desired:
- Three or more years of supervisory experience;
- Experience managing professional staff;
- Experience implementing a library liaison program and/or working as a library liaison;
Experience with a “single service desk”; - Experience with and/or knowledge of the Informationist or embedded library professional concept;
- Knowledge of and interest in integrating emerging technologies into instructional and/or research services;
- Knowledge of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and EBM resources;
- Experience developing instructional sessions and employing effective teaching technique.

Salary and appointment: Appointment will be made at the Librarian II or III level with a salary range of $44,000 to $59,400. Hardin Library for the Health Sciences: The Hardin Library for the Health Sciences serves the combined information and research needs of the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (including related allied-health education programs), and the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. The mission of the Hardin Library is to disseminate health sciences information to the students, faculty and staff of the University of Iowa in support of education, research, and health care, and to preserve the scholarly record for the future. Additionally, the Hardin Library serves as regional and outreach library within the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and serves the state through a number of electronic and traditional information services. The Hardin Library is the largest medical library in the state; its collection includes more than 360,000 print volumes, 2,300 serials subscriptions, and 2,300 electronic journals.
The University of Iowa Libraries: The University of Iowa library system consists of the Main Library, the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences and 9 branch libraries (Art, Music, Business, and the sciences). The University and Iowa City: A major research and teaching institution, the University of Iowa offers internationally recognized programs in a diverse array of academic, medical, and artistic disciplines, from otolaryngology to fiction writing, printmaking to space science, hydraulic engineering to dance.
