The Ohio State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Curator for its distinguished Hilandar Research Library (HRL).  HRL is the premiere destination for research on the medieval Slavic world, holding millions of folia of manuscript material on microfilm originating from over 100 private, museum, and library collections in dozens of countries, complimented by highly specialized reference resources and a growing collection of original Slavic manuscripts.   The Associate Curator plays a key role in developing and exposing the unique and highly distinctive resources in the HRL. Assisting with deep and focused research, this position provides outreach and instruction on the use of primary sources, fragile materials and unique content to faculty, students and a sizable community of international scholars.  This position will assess, articulate and collaboratively implement new discovery pathways to these ancient resources, making their valuable content available in the context of new research methodologies. The Associate Curator also assists with the access and reference necessary to connect users with other special collections throughout the Libraries.  This position works with Special Collections Cataloging, the Book and Paper Conservator, the Libraries' digital program and other research service units to ensure that HRL materials are well described, cared for, and widely accessible. This position also provides oversight and facilitates efforts to improve the discovery and use of the Libraries' noteworthy East European and Slavic collections. This position provides occasional supervision and training of an RCMSS Graduate Associate for HRL-related duties and the Assistant Curator for Eastern European Slavic (EES).

A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences or equivalent education/experience is required.  A master’s degree with a specialization in archives or a master’s degree in museum studies may be an alternative to the MLS.  MA or PhD in Slavic & East European Languages & Literatures is desired. The incumbent must demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, donors, students and others, particularly those whose primary language is not English. Experience processing special collections, especially Slavic Cyrillic primary source materials is desired. Working knowledge of Old Church Slavonic and at least one modern Slavic language, such as South or East Slavic is preferred.  The successful candidate will have proven research experience in an academic library and/or special collections, with knowledge of practices relating to the identification, access, control, organization and digitization of manuscripts.

This is a full-time, permanent, 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment. Salary and faculty rank are dependent on qualifications and experience.

General Description:
The Head of Research Services is responsible for leadership for the research services portfolio in the OSU Libraries, which encompasses traditional and emerging forms of reference service; for analysis of the strategic environment for Libraries, of academic program needs, and of changing user behaviors, preferences, and work practices; and for developing, refining, assessing, and sustaining an evolving program of research services for faculty, researchers, and students throughout the university.  The incumbent leads and develops both library faculty and staff through mentoring and planned in-house training; speaks for the Libraries on issues pertaining to the research services suite; and collaborates with colleagues both within and beyond the Libraries in promoting research services as essential to the research productivity and enhanced learning of all members of the University community.

Required Qualifications: 
·         ALA-accredited MLS degree, or its equivalent
·         Demonstrated understanding of trends in research processes and practices of faculty, researchers, and students at all levels; knowledge of major trends in scholarly communication, copyright, the research lifecycle, data curation, library assessment, and teaching and learning practices in higher education
·         Ability to articulate a vision for a broadened research services portfolio for academic libraries, encompassing the multiple phases of the research life cycle
·         Grasp of the strategic environment for research libraries
·         Familiarity with best practices for reference and research consultation services
·         In-depth knowledge of the current research on user behavior
·         Ability to conduct research on user behavior and to use findings in developing services and program
·         Supervisory experience in an academic or research library, or equivalent experience
·         Demonstrated leadership ability and capacity to inspire staff

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Familiarity with interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning trends in higher education                           
·         Familiarity with various models of learning and research commons, and ability to conduct program planning in conjunction with facilities planning                                                                                                
·         Demonstrated ability to form teams and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues within and beyond the library
·         Experience with strategic planning, staff development, and budgets
·         A track record of successful experimentation and innovation in program development

Research Librarian for the Health Sciences


The University of California, Irvine Libraries seek a creative, knowledgeable, proactive, collaborative, and user-oriented Research Librarian for the Health Sciences to develop and manage electronic and print collections and plan and deliver innovative reference and instruction services in the health sciences for the Ayala Science Library on the main campus and the Grunigen Medical Library at the UCI Medical Center in Orange.    

The Research Librarian for the Health Sciences supports the educational, research and clinical needs for the following areas:  the School of Medicine, the Programs of Nursing Science and of Public Health, and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Working in a collegial environment with other librarians for the health sciences, the successful candidate will have sole responsibility for developing the print and electronic collections in the subject-specified areas listed above as well as participate in a team approach to provide instruction, reference, liaison and outreach to faculty and students.

The Research Librarian for the Health Sciences will be based in the Ayala Science Library and be a member of the Collection Development Department, reporting to the Head of Collection Development. 

Duties and Responsibilities

In the area of collection development, the Research Librarian for the Health Sciences will be responsible for the selection, assessment, and management of collections and resources in the School of Medicine, the Programs of Nursing Science and of Public Health, and the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. This position also works collaboratively with other campus librarians for the health sciences, in order to understand and meet faculty and students’ information needs as well as promote the Libraries’ services and resources.   On a University of California system-wide level, the Research Librarian for the Health Sciences will be a member of the UC Health and Life Sciences selectors group, providing input and making decisions on health and life science resources and topics that pertain to our consortium.  The candidate will also develop and update subject web pages in support of health sciences research.  The successful applicant will also work collaboratively with the UCI Libraries’ technology centers to identify and provide the multimedia resources and services to support the research and teaching needs of the health sciences.

In the area of reference, the Research Librarian for the Health Sciences will provide specialized and general reference service, supporting information needs in the health sciences.  The candidate may provide up to ten hours of reference service weekly, including responding to in-person, telephone, and electronic inquiries as well as providing specialized research consultations for health sciences related questions. The candidate is also expected to maintain sufficient knowledge to provide effective general reference assistance. Occasional evening shifts are required.

In the area of instruction, the Research Librarian for Health Sciences will provide and promote specialized instruction services to students and faculty in the health sciences.  The candidate also participates in the Libraries’ information literacy initiatives and general education programs to assist campus and community users in improving their critical thinking, information-seeking, and research skills.

Qualifications

Required:
·         Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and library experience.
·         Educational background in the health sciences; or experience performing reference, instruction, and/or collection development for these subjects.
·         Substantial knowledge of health sciences resources, including scholarly communication issues and trends in this area.
·         Ability to provide effective instruction in the use of health sciences resources.
·         Strong interest in working with students and faculty.
·         Commitment to user-centered library services.
·         Strong interest in information technology, instructional technology, electronic resources, multimedia resources and services, especially in the health sciences.
·         Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
·         Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team within a dynamically changing environment.
·         Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
·         Ability to meet the University of California criteria for advancement and promotion.

Preferred:
·         Experience assessing, evaluating, and negotiating digital resources for the health sciences.
·         Skill in developing, organizing, and maintaining web-based information resources.
·         Experience using health science resources in the provision of reference, instruction, or collection development.

Collection Development Department

The Collection Development Department consists of 8 librarians and 1 FTE library assistant.  The Collection Development Department is committed to developing, delivering, and preserving the Libraries’ collection of significant and diverse research resources.  This department is dedicated to building a research library of excellence by overseeing and directing collection development activities, managing library collections, and fostering relationships with faculty, students and staff engaged in the production of knowledge.

The Libraries

Director of Technology Services



The St. Louis Public Library, a nationally recognized library system, has an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with others.
This position is responsible for overall leadership and direction of the library's technology infrastructure, which includes web development, digital library applications, hardware and software identification, evaluation, and implementation, developing annual budgets for system technology, and initiatives to help the library innovate through technology.
This position reports directly to the Library’s Deputy Director and is a member of the management team.  The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to work closely with the Executive Director and other members of the management team to facilitate and implement long-range system planning.  Must have the ability to identify current and future technology needs of the Library and the community and to create plans to adapt and improve current technology for use in libraries.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of current technology and library applications.  Must also be capable of learning to negotiate SirsiDynix Symphony, the integrated library system.  Working experience with metadata standards, digital capture standards, and intellectual property issues is preferred. 
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Science, computer science, or related discipline, or commensurate experience, including at least 5 years of successful and progressively responsible IT experience including supervision and performance evaluation of staff.  Experience with library management systems, vendors and solutions is preferred.
