HARDIN LIBRARY FOR THE HEALTH SCIENCES CLINICAL EDUCATION LIBRARIAN

Position Description: Reporting to the Hardin Library’s Coordinator, Education and Research, the Clinical Education Librarian plans, promotes and provides information services that support the needs of faculty, researchers, staff and students of the university’s five health sciences colleges and affiliated hospitals and clinics. The incumbent:
• serves as the liaison to the Carver College of Medicine’s Office of Student Affairs and Curriculum and the Graduate Medical Education office by cultivating relationships with faculty and researchers to identify opportunities for library partnerships;
• works with faculty to integrate library education into the curriculum;
• writes curriculum and provides instruction to students, staff and faculty one-on-one and in group settings;
• provides reference service at public services desks;
• assists users with research and information management tools;
• serves as Hardin Library’s expert on Evidence-Based Practice;
• is proficient with current technologies and investigates new technologies;
• works with others to develop and revise programs to respond to changing information needs;
• serves on working groups/committees and participates in initiatives of the Libraries, health colleges, university, and hospital; and
• contributes to and learns from the profession through such avenues as local, state and national professional organizations and publications.

Qualifications:
Required
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science;
• Three years post-Masters experience in a health sciences or life sciences library;
• Experience providing instruction and reference services;
• Knowledge of Evidence-Based Practice concepts;
• Experience with mobile devices, social networking and other new forms of technology
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community;
• Strong customer service and public services abilities;
• Experience providing advanced information services, including searching biomedical literature and full-text databases;

Salary and appointment: Appointment will be made at the Librarian II level with a salary range of $44,000 to $49,000. Start date is negotiable. Hardin Library for the Health Sciences: The Hardin Library for the Health Sciences serves the combined information and research needs of the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics (including related allied-health education programs), and the Department of Communication Disorders. The mission of the Hardin Library is to assist faculty, staff and students of the University of Iowa in searching and retrieving quality information in support of education, research, and health care, and to preserve the scholarly record for the future. Additionally, the Hardin Library serves as regional and outreach library within the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and serves the state through a number of electronic and traditional information services. The Hardin Library is the largest medical library in the state; its collection includes more than 360,000 print volumes and 2,300 serials subscriptions primarily in electronic format.

The University of Iowa Libraries: The University of Iowa library system consists of the Main Library, the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences and a number of branch libraries. The Libraries has more than 5 million volumes including thousands of electronic resources and coordinates the development and maintenance of the University’s locally-created open access digital resources including the Iowa Digital Library, featuring more the 225,000 digitized texts, images, and audio and video recordings, as well as Iowa Research Online, our institutional repository. Our Special Collections include over 200,000 rare books, ranging in age from the 15th century to newly created artists’ books.

Librarian liaisons promote the development of critical thinking and research skills, and support teaching, learning, research, and clinical services through one-on-one research consultations, course-related instruction and Instant Messaging and e-mail reference. They also help promote Iowa Research Online and provide outreach and education on issues related to scholarly communication. Library systems are built on a mix of open source, locally developed, hosted services, and vended applications primarily from Ex Libris, OCLC, and Microsoft. Associate University Librarian, Public Services

Position and Responsibilities:
Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, service-oriented and dynamic Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Public Services. The AUL will play a major role in formulating service delivery models for the functional areas of liaison services, outreach, the Learning Commons, library instruction, and access/media services. The AUL will be responsible for leading the effort to further define library service for a growing research university and for working collaboratively with library and university communities to deliver those services. This position will also work collaboratively with rest of the Maine InfoNet staff to provide comprehensive, hands-on support for MaineCat, Minerva, SOLAR, MARVEL! and other Maine InfoNet services and projects, including direct technical support for rapid response to system support requests. The successful candidate will have integrated library system (ILS) experience, an understanding of the vital importance of communication and public service in a multi-type library environment, and demonstrated experience realizing the full potential of technology to serve library staff and patrons. This position will be based out of the Maine InfoNet offices at the University of Maine in Orono and will report to the Executive Director of Maine InfoNet.

Position Summary
As a member of the University Library’s senior leadership, the Associate University Librarian for Publishing (AUL for Publishing) will direct the scholarly publishing activities at the University of Michigan by overseeing the University of Michigan Press, the Scholarly Publishing Office, the Library’s Institutional Repository Deep Blue, and the Library’s Copyright Office. The AUL for Publishing will lead the development of content delivery through a financially sustainable publishing program, involving both print and electronic models, and will represent the University Library in national and international conversations about the future of scholarly publishing. This position is located within the University Library system and reports to the University Librarian.

Position Responsibilities
• Leads and coordinates a suite of publishing activities for the University Library, including the University of Michigan Press, and serves as an advisor to the university community on issues surrounding scholarly publishing activities.
• Oversees the work of the University of Michigan Press, the Scholarly Publishing Office, Deep Blue, and the Library Copyright Office.
• Serves as a liaison or coordinator for collaborative efforts such as the Text Creation Partnership.
• Represents the interests of the University Library and the University of Michigan community in the development of university policy on author rights, public domain, textbooks, fair use, and other scholarly communication and publication issues.
• Cultivates an ongoing awareness of national scholarly publishing and communication policy issues, and ensures that the university community is informed and educated about the significance of these issues in the digital environment so as to retain and enjoy the full benefits of the current and evolving intellectual property regime.
• Consults and works closely with the university’s Office of General Counsel, campus IT services, academic departments, and senior university administrators on issues and programs related to scholarly publishing.
• Supports the development and exploration of resources and content delivery strategies built on new media and networked technology platforms in the context of the resources available in a research library.
• As appropriate, coordinates efforts with regional & national organizations such as the ALA Office of Information and Technology Policy, ARL, SPARC, and others on issues and programs related to scholarly publishing and communication.
• Assumes responsibility for related duties within this evolving area of expertise.

Qualifications
Required: Significant relevant experience with emphasis on publishing in libraries, academia, scientific or scholarly journals, university press environment or other similar settings. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: academic or research library collections, services, and systems; scientific or scholarly publishing; successful management of a university or similar press environment; demonstrated ability to represent the interests of a university, based on an understanding of the technical, legal, and information policy issues of scholarly communication. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with and lead faculty, students, and academic administrators in a culturally diverse environment. Ability to think creatively in developing products and services, such as publications, workshops, conferences, and tools that meet the needs of the community.

Desired: Relevant and substantial responsible administrative experience in collection management, university press or other areas in a research library environment. Ability to communicate a strong vision of how discipline-based scholarship is changing in response to new technologies and what role libraries can play in meeting the evolving needs of scholars.

The Katherine W. Dumke Fine Arts and Architecture Library, housed in the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah, is seeking an innovative and creative librarian to work in an exciting and recently renovated learning environment of free and open inquiry combined with a commitment to excellence in service. Reporting to the Head of Fine Arts, responsibilities of the Fine Arts Librarian will include specialized research assistance, instruction, collection development for print and digital resources, outreach, and digital projects in the areas of the visual arts, art history, architecture, music, ballet, modern dance, film and theatre. Opportunities exist for building collaborations across the library, campus, and community in support of Fine Arts and interdisciplinary work. This individual will help users blend visual and textual resources in support of a new University of Utah visual, information and technology literacy initiative. Marriott Library is an ARL library with holding of nearly 3 million volumes, 32,000 journals in electronic and print formats, and a considerable number of other networked electronic resources. The University, with a student population of 29,000, is situated on a 1,500 acre campus in Salt Lake City. The library is very near completion of a large-scale renovation which includes a state- of-the-art Knowledge Commons and a center to create multimedia digital content.
