Oregon State University (OSU) Libraries seeks candidates for the Electronic Resources Unit Supervisor within the Collections & Resource Sharing Department (CRSD). This is a key management position at OSU Libraries in an innovative and team-oriented environment. The supervisor uses his/her knowledge of current and emerging trends to oversee the evaluation, management, and promotion of a wide range of electronic resources including databases, electronic journals and books, and reference sources. In close collaboration with personnel from other appropriate library units, the incumbent coordinates support for the acquisition, processing and maintenance of electronic resources throughout their life cycle; oversees the maintenance of the Libraries’ electronic resource management (ERM) system; coordinates the Libraries’ approval plan, PDA, EDI, and other outsourced services; and implements new tools, features, and programs that enhance and/or improve electronic resource access and usability. The incumbent will manage the daily operations related to licensing, negotiating, and tracking access to electronic resources and supervises 3 FT classified staff engaged in these activities.

Archivist/Special Collections Librarian

ARCHIVIST/SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARIAN. 

The University of Maine Library is seeking an Archivist/Special Collections Librarian to work in its Special Collections Department, the holdings of which constitute one of the major resources for research on Maine History.  This is a 12-month, full-time position, with an excellent benefits package including TIAA-CREF and a dependent and employee tuition waver.  The anticipated starting salary range is $39,000 - $45,000, depending on qualifications.  Evening and weekend hours will be required. 

Responsibilities and Duties: Preparing and enhancing archival finding aids and cataloging records; providing reference assistance to on-site and off-site Special Collections’ researchers; working on digital library projects, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Has the education typically associated with ALA-accredited MLS or a Master’s degree in Archives or other appropriate field. Experience processing archival collections. Experience providing public service and an enthusiastic attitude about working with the public. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse staff and clientele. Strong computer literacy. Experience with web-site development. Database development, or other digital library projects. Experience with EAD (Encoded Archival Description). Ability to lift 30-50 pound occasionally. Must have authorization to work in the U.S. Appropriate background checks will be conducted. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Maine History.

Metadata Librarian


The Eastern Washington University Libraries invites applications for a Metadata Librarian (Librarian II or III). The position has professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities in librarianship focus on developing and maintaining the discovery engine used to find library resources; activities in cataloging, classification, and metadata creation for library resources; participating in production of archival digital collections and microfilm preservation; guiding the selection and use of metadata schemas, controlled vocabularies, and data dictionaries to facilitate use of digital collections and institutional repository as these develop; communicating and consulting with others about the organization, description, and discovery of library resources; and coordinating physical processing of tangible resources.  This is a 100% 11-months per year tenure-track library faculty position.  Workload includes:  80% responsibilities in librarianship, including metadata, cataloging, and bibliographic control and coordination of staff and processing operations; 20% service and professional development including research and publication.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or comparable accredited foreign program

  • Experience in cataloging library resources in a variety of formats 
  • Knowledge of and experience in use of MARC; knowledge of a minimum of one other metadata standard, such as such as DC, CCO, DACS, DCRM(B), EAD, METS, MODS, VRA, CCO, etc. 
  • Demonstrated success in managing personnel and operations in cataloging/metadata functions 
  • Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication, organizational, problem-solving and planning skills 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of faculty, staff, and clients 
  • Ability, during the probationary period, to meet library faculty requirements for tenure in the areas of scholarship and service, as defined in Library Faculty Policies & Procedures 
  • Commitment to excellence in bibliographic control and discovery of library resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active participation in professional dialogue and contribution to academic librarianship, through participation in professional associations, publication, etc.

This position is responsible for the administration of all activities within Special Collections and Archives, in support of teaching, learning and research at the University. Responsibilities include:

Research Librarian for Business


RESEARCH LIBRARIAN FOR BUSINESS

The University of California, Irvine Libraries seek a creative, knowledgeable, and user-centered Research Librarian for Business to plan and deliver innovative reference and instruction services, and to develop and manage electronic and print collections in business and management.

The Research Librarian for Business will provide liaison and outreach to faculty and students of The Paul Merage School of Business which has been ranked among the top 50 business schools nationally by the Wall Street Journal, Business Week and U.S. News and World Report.  In 2011 the Financial Times ranked the School #27 in the US and #53 in the world. The School offers a full-time Ph.D. program, and four MBA programs (Full-time MBA, Executive MBA, Fully Employed MBA, and Health Care Executive MBA), as well as a BA in Business Administration and a BS in Business Information Management.

The successful candidate for this position will be a member of the Reference Department, reporting to the Head of Reference.

Duties and Responsibilities

In the area of reference, the Research Librarian for Business will provide specialized business reference and individual research consultations.  In addition, the Research Librarian will be expected to provide effective general reference assistance at the Langson Library Reference Desk, supporting information needs in business, social sciences, government publications, humanities, education, and the arts.  The Research Librarian for Business may provide up to ten hours of general reference service weekly, including responding to in-person, telephone, and electronic inquiries. Occasional evening shifts are required.

In the area of collection development, the Research Librarian for Business will be responsible for the selection, assessment, and management of collections and resources in business and management including reference resources.  The Research Librarian will serve as liaison to the faculty and students in The Paul Merage School of Business to ensure that their information needs are being met and to promote the Libraries’ services and resources.  The Research Librarian will be responsible for monitoring budgets and making collections decisions that support the teaching and research needs on campus.  The incumbent will keep abreast of new publications and electronic resources in business and management and will develop and update subject web pages in support of curriculum and research in The Paul Merage School of Business. 

In the area of instruction, the Research Librarian for Business will provide and promote subject-based instruction ranging from general orientations and overviews of electronic resources in business to customized presentations for specific course assignments.  The candidate will also participate in the Libraries' information literacy initiatives and general education programs to assist campus and community users in improving their critical thinking, information seeking, and research skills.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and library experience.
  • Substantial knowledge of business and financial information resources
  • Ability to provide effective instruction in the use of business and financial information resources.
  • Strong interest in building and managing business collections in all formats

Reference Department


The Research Librarian for Business will be based in the Langson Library and will be a member of the Reference Department, which consists of Langson Library Reference and Ayala Science Library Reference. Langson Library’s services and collections support research and teaching in the Arts, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences and Business and Management.  The Department provides reference services including research consultation and virtual reference. The Reference Department operates in a team-based environment and the staff consists of 9 librarians and 7 FTE career staff.

The Libraries
