Albertsons Library, Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position of Head, Special Collections and Archives. This position is responsible for the administration of all activities within Special Collections and Archives, in support of teaching, learning and research at the University. This experienced and innovative librarian provides services that are responsive to the needs of the University in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. Representative collections include the McCain Collection for Western Life, Idaho Authors, Frank Church Papers, and the Basque Collection. Subject strengths include Idaho political history and public affairs, western life, environmental issues, Idaho literature and arts, and local history. The University Archives includes both print and digital formats. This position reports to the Dean, University Library.

Responsibilities include:
·         leads, supervises, manages Special Collections unit
·         actively contributes to library–wide planning, policy-making, goal-setting and assessment efforts as a member of the Library Dean's Council
·         establishes priorities, goals, and benchmarks for Special Collections
·         provides effective leadership to meet the information and research needs of faculty and students
·         serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments
·         provides support for the integration of research and teaching through collaborations with University departments and programs
·         evaluates and acquires new collections of manuscripts, books, photographs, documents, and other items
·         develops policies and procedures for the effective administration of the Special Collections unit
·         ensures that university records policies are effectively carried out

Minimum qualifications:
·         master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program.
·         minimum 5 years post -ALA accredited degree professional experience in an academic library
·         successfully demonstrated management and leadership skills
·         demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate relationships with donors
·         demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service
·         strong commitment to diversity
·         knowledge of current trends and issues in Special Collections and Archives
·         knowledge of digital formats and standards
·         excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
·         potential to meet library faculty requirements for tenure and promotion

Preferred Qualifications:               
·         experience with  grant writing and administration of grants
·         experience with the management of digitization projects and initiatives
·         experience working with digital collections

Salary and benefits: Salary based on qualifications. Minimum $50,000 with a comprehensive benefit package. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, tenure-track position with faculty status.
