Head, Print Cataloging


The University of Michigan Library seeks a Head of Print Cataloging to manage the basic operations of the Print Cataloging Section within Technical Services.  Together with Print Acquisition, Fiscal Management, and Electronic Resources and Database Management, Print Cataloging provides overall technical services support for the University Library.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Head of Technical Services, the responsibilities of the Head of Print Cataloging will include descriptive cataloging, classification, rare, special, and music cataloging, labeling and withdrawals/transfers.  The successful candidate will supervise an overall staff of 17 FTE, including two unit heads, as well as work collaboratively both inside and outside of Technical Services to develop strategies and procedures that increase productivity, cost efficiency, and streamline workflow.  He or she will also provide leadership and promote innovative approaches, as well as stay abreast of national trends and issues relating to cataloging.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
·         ALA accredited MLS degree.
·         Minimum four to five years professional experience in a large research library, primarily in Technical Services.
·         Working knowledge of one or more non-English Western European languages.
·         Demonstrated experience and knowledge of cataloging including use of the USMARC format, AACR2, and LCSH.
·         Experience with an Integrated Library System, preferably Aleph.
·         Demonstrated positive record of using teamwork, productive workplace collaborations, and collective decision-making.
·         Supervisory experience of both professional and paraprofessional staff.
·         Evidence of strong planning, organizational, analytical, project management skills, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with culturally diverse faculty, students, and staff.
·         Demonstrated leadership, training, supervisory, and management skills.
·         Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
·         Evidence of professional initiative.
Desired:
·         Knowledge of music and/or rare book cataloging.
·         Serials cataloging experience.

Final rank and salary dependent on experience and qualifications.  This position is anticipated to be filled at the Senior Associate or Librarian level; however this position may be filled at the Assistant, Associate, Senior Associate, or full Librarian level.

Systems Librarian


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Team Leader, Library Systems Support and working closely with the OIS Systems Operations and Library Support Group, the Systems Librarian implements and configures library software, triages online support questions from library staff and provides first level support for staff on all centrally managed library systems.

  • The Systems Librarian facilitates staff training and will play a key role in implementing an online system for library staff instruction. Initially, the Systems librarian will be primarily responsible for testing and evaluating e-learning tools, implementing a framework for delivering online tutorials and webinars, and working within a committee structure to develop course content for all library systems.
  • The Systems Librarian will provide ongoing support for the new training program, with the majority of time spent on system support, configuration and maintenance. The typical duties and responsibilities include:  system support and analysis (configuration, upgrades, testing, troubleshooting, working group participation) for ILS; library staff support (functional support, discussion group participation); library staff training (coordinate training program for library staff; oversee maintenance and updates for online tutorials, consult with content experts on e-learning tools); and, documentation (develop and maintain website user documentation including reference manuals, guides, online help).  This position is a one year term appointment.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Library and Information Science or equivalent experience required
  • and either 1-2 years experience in working directly with developing or configuring computer applications in libraries (e.g. macros, websites, etc.)
  • or 2 years of professional level experience in the operations of a research library and a demonstrated aptitude for technical analysis and work
  • Ability to think analytically and explain technical concepts and functions to non-technical staff. 
  • Solid understanding of technical services functions with emphasis on acquisitions and serials processing required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
    Demonstrated experience working effectively with all levels of library staff and some committee experience.
  • Ability and interest in learning new applications and tools for use in training.

The Librarian coordinates the administration and supervision of all libraries and library staff in the University Housing Library system. He or she serves as an information specialist within University Housing and Residential Life. The Librarian supervises two full time secretaries, 2 graduate assistants, 2 graduate supervisors, and 55 students.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for this position include a Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited school or it's degree equivalent and a minimum of three years full time experience in a library environment, including administrative experience and experience managing multiple priorities while coordinating a diverse set of functions is required of all applicants.

• demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple library environment

Position Specifications
The position is a full-time, 12-month academic professional appointment. University benefits include cumulative sick leave; group health, including options for same-sex domestic partners, vision, dental and life insurance with options for dependents; full tuition and partial fee waiver for two units per semester (approximately 2 courses) with approval of supervisor after the first semester of employment; state retirement, twenty-four vacation days and regular university holidays and other benefits for academic professionals. Rollins College is looking for a service-oriented librarian eager to help shape a dynamic, forward-looking liberal arts college library through the ongoing organization and support of access to databases and online serials holdings, including knowledgebase maintenance, licensing, and usage analysis.

Under the direction of the Head of Digital Services & Systems, the Electronic Resources & Serials Librarian will work with the Digital Services & Systems department and the rest of the library to manage the Serials Solutions knowledgebase of online and print serials holdings, to compile and analyze usage data from multiple sources, to negotiate contracts and licenses for digital products, and to most effectively present and make accessible electronic resources and serials to the Rollins community. Preferred qualifications include experience with digital serials and electronic resource management systems, ideally the Serials Solutions suite; knowledge of trends in academic library licensing and ability to deal with library vendors; ability to collect, manage, analyze, and communicate numerical information accurately and clearly; and demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and web-based resources and systems used in libraries.

The Ohio Wesleyan University Libraries include the Leon H. Beeghly Library, the Hobson Science Library, and the Kinnison Music Library.  The libraries have a collection of more than 500,000 items with a distinctive rare book collection and one of the country’s oldest depositories of federal government publications.  In addition, the libraries’ holdings include 718 print journals, 18,773 e-journals, 158 e-databases, and 23,642 e-books.  The total staff of 21 (12 librarians and professionals and 9 support staff) is supplemented with an average of 70 work-study students each year.   Library innovations in recent years have included the creation of an Information Commons, the opening of a library cafĂ© with 24/7 access, the provision of reference support via Instant Messaging and the development of a Digital Resource Center.
