Associate University Librarian, Public Services

Position and Responsibilities:
Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, service-oriented and dynamic Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Public Services. The AUL will play a major role in formulating service delivery models for the functional areas of liaison services, outreach, the Learning Commons, library instruction, and access/media services. The AUL will be responsible for leading the effort to further define library service for a growing research university and for working collaboratively with library and university communities to deliver those services. He/she will also work with library and university faculty in support of teaching and scholarship, particularly with regard to information literacy and new models of information delivery and use.

The successful candidate will be responsible for librarians and staff in all public services areas, with 3 library faculty and 1 library staff reporting directly to the AUL. The AUL will report to the Dean of Libraries and will join an administrative team that is committed to innovation and experimentation in the delivery of academic library information services.

Department & Campus Environment:
Since its 2007 renovation, the Georgia State University Library provides one of the most attractive, open and inviting educational facilities in the Southeast. With over 1.5 million visitors this past year, the library is an integral part of the university community. The Seattle Municipal Archives (SMA) seeks a candidate for a limited term temporary appointment funded by a two-year grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The successful candidate will report to the City Archivist and receive direct task assignment and training from the Processing Archivist. The Project Archivist, in conjunction with the SMA Processing Archivist, will undertake a two-year project to arrange and describe the processing backlog of the Seattle Municipal Archives.

Perform preliminary subject analysis and cataloging of textual records
Create preliminary MARC and EAD records employing DACS single-level optimum description
Make recommendations to the Project Director regarding appraisal and weeding of textual records
Make recommendations for future detailed processing

Required Qualifications
Two years experience and/or education in archives and records management systems, information sciences, or a related field
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in basic processing methodologies
Demonstrated knowledge of standards in archival arrangement and description including Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), MARC cataloging, and Encoded Archival Description (EAD)

Library Systems Manager (Librarian I)

The Library Systems Manager will oversee the implementation, operation, configuration and support of the integrated library system (URSUS) that supports the seven campus libraries of the University of Maine System. Position Summary
As a member of the University Library’s senior leadership, the Associate University Librarian for Publishing (AUL for Publishing) will direct the scholarly publishing activities at the University of Michigan by overseeing the University of Michigan Press, the Scholarly Publishing Office, the Library’s Institutional Repository Deep Blue, and the Library’s Copyright Office. The AUL for Publishing will lead the development of content delivery through a financially sustainable publishing program, involving both print and electronic models, and will represent the University Library in national and international conversations about the future of scholarly publishing. This position is located within the University Library system and reports to the University Librarian.

Position Responsibilities
• Leads and coordinates a suite of publishing activities for the University Library, including the University of Michigan Press, and serves as an advisor to the university community on issues surrounding scholarly publishing activities.
• Oversees the work of the University of Michigan Press, the Scholarly Publishing Office, Deep Blue, and the Library Copyright Office.
• Serves as a liaison or coordinator for collaborative efforts such as the Text Creation Partnership.
• Represents the interests of the University Library and the University of Michigan community in the development of university policy on author rights, public domain, textbooks, fair use, and other scholarly communication and publication issues.
• Cultivates an ongoing awareness of national scholarly publishing and communication policy issues, and ensures that the university community is informed and educated about the significance of these issues in the digital environment so as to retain and enjoy the full benefits of the current and evolving intellectual property regime.
• Consults and works closely with the university’s Office of General Counsel, campus IT services, academic departments, and senior university administrators on issues and programs related to scholarly publishing.
• Supports the development and exploration of resources and content delivery strategies built on new media and networked technology platforms in the context of the resources available in a research library.
• As appropriate, coordinates efforts with regional & national organizations such as the ALA Office of Information and Technology Policy, ARL, SPARC, and others on issues and programs related to scholarly publishing and communication.
• Assumes responsibility for related duties within this evolving area of expertise.

Qualifications
Required: Significant relevant experience with emphasis on publishing in libraries, academia, scientific or scholarly journals, university press environment or other similar settings. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: academic or research library collections, services, and systems; scientific or scholarly publishing; successful management of a university or similar press environment; demonstrated ability to represent the interests of a university, based on an understanding of the technical, legal, and information policy issues of scholarly communication. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with and lead faculty, students, and academic administrators in a culturally diverse environment. Ability to think creatively in developing products and services, such as publications, workshops, conferences, and tools that meet the needs of the community.

Desired: Relevant and substantial responsible administrative experience in collection management, university press or other areas in a research library environment. Ability to communicate a strong vision of how discipline-based scholarship is changing in response to new technologies and what role libraries can play in meeting the evolving needs of scholars.

The Katherine W. Dumke Fine Arts and Architecture Library, housed in the J. Position and Responsibilities:

Department & Campus Environment:
The Digital Library Services department uses open source and standard web development practices to create and provide a library web presence, including content management, blogging, and wiki applications. The department is responsible for developing, customizing, and integrating various web applications from vendors and open source platforms used by both internal and external customers. The department works with campus computing to install and maintain computer hardware and software, networking capabilities, network and PC security, and computer workstations in the library. Leadership in the area of content digitization, storage, and presentation will be a growing component of this position. The library uses CONTENTdm to create and present our digital collections on the web, and LibGuides to present librarian created web content to our customers, and Ex Libris products including SFX, MetaLib, and Voyager as a member of the GALILEO state library consortium.

Serving within the reference department and reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services, the Instruction/Reference Librarian is actively involved in the library’s information literacy program, provides reference assistance to students, faculty and staff, and serves as library liaison to one or more university departments. The Board of Library Trustees of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System—serving 841,315 suburban Maryland residents immediately north, east and south of the nation’s capital—seeks an experienced and energetic library leader as its next director. The System serves an increasingly diverse population—epitomizing the changing face of America—through 18 branches and an active outreach program. Responsibilities. Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian

Position and Responsibilities

Georgia State University Library seeks an energetic, knowledgeable and visionary librarian to provide leadership in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the University Libraries’ collection of electronic resources.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, and supervising personnel in the Electronic and Continuing Resources unit of the department, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the purchase, licensing and maintenance of all electronic materials and will work closely with publishers, vendors, consortium partners and colleagues in other library departments including, but not limited to, Collection Development and Digital Library Services. The Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian will implement new electronic resource management applications and manage existing applications including SFX, MetaLib, Verde, GALILEO Local Resources Integration (GLRI) and the library’s list of databases. Other responsibilities include monitoring the evolution of these systems and identifying new alternatives for managing and exposing the library’s electronic resources; resolving issues relating to access and maintenance of electronic and continuing resources; analyzing and disseminating usage data and preparing reports to assist in collections decisions; performing administrative duties and participating in university and professional activities including research, publication, planning, procedure development and implementation, and policy and decision making processes for the department and library.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Marston Science Library, University of Florida Libraries, is seeking a creative and service-oriented reference and collection management librarian for the chemical sciences. The Chemistry Librarian provides reference assistance, instruction, outreach, and collection management to support programs dependent upon the chemical sciences. Primary focus is on the departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science Engineering. A key element of the assignment is the use of new technology to access and deliver information to library users. The librarian works collaboratively in group efforts and maintains close professional relationships with faculty, students and colleagues. The position is responsible for special projects such as collection reviews, monitoring UF science publications, and creation of web-based resources. The library encourages staff participation in reaching management decisions and consequently the Chemistry Librarian will serve on various committees and teams. The incumbent will pursue professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and professional association activities, to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and promotion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides traditional and electronic reference services for faculty, students and staff of the University of Florida, primarily in the science and technology areas. Participates in the provision of traditional reference desk, reference chat and email reference services. Proactively assists library patrons with the use of computer workstations.
2. Participates in instruction programs using traditional classroom methods and educational technologies.
3. Participates actively in the development, selection and evaluation of web resources for subject guides and other user services.
4. Develops and maintains web-based tutorials, videos, and multimedia projects related to chemistry information sources.
5. Participates in science collection management program, specifically chemical sciences. Selects and evaluates subject-based materials and works with faculty in selecting materials to support their academic and research programs.
6. Participates in planning, policy formation and departmental decision making related to science services, collections and new technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school; equivalent advanced degree in library studies, information science, or science education; or an advanced degree in a scientific field involving chemistry.
2. Undergraduate degree in a scientific field involving chemistry, or experience serving a chemistry-related population.
3. Knowledge of scientific resources including chemistry-related sources such as SciFinder Scholar and CrossFire Commander.
4. Strong commitment to user-focused service.
