Position:    Librarian, Online and Distance Learning                                
Department:    Hugh A. and Edna C. White Library                                            
Schedule:    Full-time, 11 month, tenure-track with faculty rank

Qualifications:
    ALA/MLS or completion by start date.  Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills, including demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office and Web 2.0. Willingness to travel occasionally to off-campus sites and to work a flexible schedule as required. Experience in marketing, delivering, and assessing instruction and reference services in a distance learning environment is preferred. Responsibilities:    Will require collaboration with other library units to create, implement, and promote services for off-campus learners who attend SAU centers throughout Michigan or are enrolled in SAU online programs.  This position will work with the Education and Reference Librarians to coordinate reference, instruction, and information literacy assistance to off-campus students and faculty, and will integrate technologies such as social networking, virtual reference, mobile technologies, & other Web 2.0 applications to support instructional and research activities for remote learners. Important facets of this position include the marketing of existing and newly created services and the assessment of these services
for continuous improvement.

The Hugh A. and Edna C. White Library of Spring Arbor University seeks a service-oriented librarian to fill a newly redesigned position.  Reporting to the Library Director, this eleven month, tenure-track position will require collaboration with other library units to create, implement, and promote services for off-campus learners who attend SAU centers throughout Michigan or are enrolled in SAUonline programs.  This position will work with the Education and Reference Librarians to coordinate reference, instruction, and information literacy assistance to off-campus students and faculty, and will integrate technologies such as social networking, virtual reference, mobile technologies, and other Web 2.0 applications to support instructional and research activities for remote learners. Strong computer skills, including demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with integrated library systems and library databases.  Willingness to travel to off-campus sites and to work a flexible schedule as required. Experience in marketing, delivering, and assessing instruction and reference services in a distance learning environment preferred. (Evening/Weekend Reference and Instruction Librarian-Lowell Campus)
Middlesex Community College seeks a self-motivated, service oriented part-time Evening/Weekend Reference and Instruction Librarian to work as part of the Library Services team in the Lowell campus Dobelle Library serving students, faculty, staff and community users. The successful candidate must enjoy working with our diverse library users and library staff to provide evening and Saturday reference assistance and library instruction that supports student success in both the library and online environments. Position begins with the fall semester. Training to take place in August.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide professional library services to community college students, faculty and staff.
Assist in operating the library by providing circulation and reference services.
Assist students with research and use of 60 student computers.
Collaborate with other librarians to develop online resources in support of our curriculum.
Provide supervision to and assistance with circulation functions as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, or closely related field; previous professional-level library experience helpful, but not essential.
Energetic, approachable, and service-oriented professional with strong computer skills.
Must be pro-active and self-motivated about helping students succeed.
Commitment to working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
Hours: Part time, non-benefited professional staff position, 23 hours per week when classes are in session - 30 weeks per year. Hours: Tuesday through Thursday, 2:30 pm - 9:00 pm. Saturday, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Salary: $22.99/hr

Librarian Closed

St. Louis Public Library has an opening for a Librarian. Candidates must have an MLS from an ALA accredited school, an undergraduate degree in the sciences and/or demonstrated knowledge and background in the subject. The person filling this position will be responsible for expert reference/research assistance in the department, collection development in the designated subject area as well as programming, program planning and community outreach as determined by the supervisor. Must have excellent communication skills and computer skills as well as a commitment to public services. Librarian, Government Publications, Maps, GIS, and Microforms. Raymond H. Fogler Library, University of Maine, Orono seeks an experienced librarian to serve as department head and to administer and coordinate fulfillment of the legal responsibilities as a Tri-State Regional Federal Government Document Depository and to support the instructional, research, and public service functions of the University by providing collection management, public, and technical service for the past, present, and future acquisitions of United States federal, Canadian federal and provincial, and Agricultural Experiment Station publications. Also to manage the delivery of Geographic Information Systems services including development of numeric and spatial database and software collections, creation of GIS instructional materials and the delivery of campus GIS workshops. Prepares reports and library publications, including web pages. Supervises four support staff and four student employees.

Required: ALA-accredited MLS and professional experience in an academic, or state, or public library with demonstrated experience with federal documents. Demonstrated leadership, management, and supervisory experience in a library. Demonstrated ability to manage programs, staff, and technology. Excellent oral and written communication skills for interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and consensus-building. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. A willingness to travel within the Tri-State Region and to national conferences as needed or appropriate. Normally requiring a valid driver’s license. Must have authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred: Experience working collaboratively with libraries, other institutions, and with state and federal governments. Experience with GIS. Experience preparing materials for and teaching workshops.

JOB SUMMARY
THIS POSITION WILL BEGIN AUGUST 2009. Provides leadership in expanding and promoting the Library's information literacy program. Works collegially with library faculty to design innovative, effective multimedia instruction to a diverse population. Promotes information literacy initiatives and works with faculty to infuse information literacy across the campus; directly provides information literacy instruction; assesses and evaluates information literacy program effectiveness; shares reference and collection development responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Expands and coordinates the information literacy program; develops, implements, teaches and assesses course-integrated and course-related information literacy instruction; emphasis on web-based tutorials and content modules for delivery through learning management systems
- Participates fully in a team environment to provide reference services and outreach to the college community
- Performs special projects; participates in the general planning and decision-making process of the library and in campus/district committees; responsible for currency in professional practices and trends

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Library or Information Science (or its equivalent) from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association.
- EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Recent professional academic reference experience which should include: information literacy instruction and experience with electronic library resources
- Experience with instructional design
- Knowledge of information literacy theory and practice
- Experience with formal assessment of learning outcomes
- Experience with course management systems
