Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: The Instruction Coordinator provides the leadership, direction, planning, and assessment for a creative and effective library instruction program, integrating the use of print, media, and electronic sources into the university curriculum. The Coordinator will provide reference service in a cooperative centralized reference environment, as well as specialized reference services for assigned academic areas. Serves as liaison with two or more academic departments, developing library collections in those areas. Provides general and subject-specific instruction, creates instructional materials and web pages, and participates in evening and weekend reference rotation.

Required Qualifications: ALA accredited M.L.S., or equivalent. Minimum of two years of professional experience in public services in an academic library setting. Recent teaching experience and current professional library experience, including teaching information literacy employing appropriate instruction methods and technologies. Knowledge of current issues and practices, emerging technologies and innovations, and national trends in reference and instruction. Broad experience with a wide variety of print and electronic reference materials. Demonstrated ability to work creatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and colleagues; commitment to public service and information literacy. Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in instructional program planning, design, and evaluation. Experience working with campus-wide information literacy initiatives.

Research & Instruction Department Head

Loyola Marymount University seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Research & Instruction Department Head.

The Research & Instruction Department Head will lead 5.5 FTE librarians and staff in providing reference, instruction and research services.

Other position specific accountabilities are as follows: Develop and implement reference service goals, policies and procedures. Partnering with teaching faculty, design, implement, market and assess instructional programs supporting research skills and information literacy. Promote curriculum-imbedded library instruction. Identify and recommend emerging technologies to incorporate best practices in reference and instruction. Provide in-person, chat, and consortial-based virtual reference services. Actively participate in llibrary-wide initiatives and campus outreach, coordinating the library’s role in faculty and student orientations and special user events. In coordination with the Head of Collection Development, continuously develop and assess the print and electronic collections of reference resources. Set goals, evaluate, and coach performance for reference librarians, and guide their promotion process. Serve on the library’s Management Council.

The ideal candidate must have broad knowledge of current trends in higher education, academic libraries, reference, and instructional technology. The successful candidate will be innovative, flexible, and collaborative. Hiring Salary: $59,880 to $73,188 commensurate with experience and salary history.

Western Washington University Libraries seeks a librarian with flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and decisiveness to provide leadership and direction to its Instruction and Research Services Department. This key position is responsible for developing a vision for implementing and assessing the Libraries’ instruction and reference services for students, faculty and staff in support of their research, teaching and learning. This person will enhance a well-established and successful academic department liaison program, incorporate best practices into instruction and reference services, and promote the use of emerging technologies. The successful candidate must be an accomplished leader, skilled in managing change, and flexible in response to user expectations.

Responsibilities
1. Develops, implements, and assesses new ideas and innovations for Instruction and Research Services
2. Coordinates and assesses the Libraries’ instruction and reference services, including the academic department liaison program
3. Develops policies and procedures for Instruction and Research Services
4. Supervises ten faculty librarians, three reference specialists, and one office assistant
5. Promotes staff development and advances the growth of librarians as teachers
6. Collaborates with other library departments and the University community
7. Provides reference service and teaches as part of the instruction program
8. Coordinates the selection of materials for the reference collection

Required Qualifications:
An MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
5 years experience, of which at least three are in increasingly responsible, substantive positions relating to reference and instruction in an academic or research library
Substantive experience in management or supervision in an academic or research library
Evidence of outstanding teaching
Evidence of the creation, delivery, and assessment of innovative user-centered services
Demonstrated skills in leadership and interpersonal communication
Ongoing publication and service record suitable for appointment at the associate professor rank

This is a full-time tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. The candidate’s record must show sufficient professional accomplishments to warrant the terms of this appointment. Reference and Instruction Librarian

Olin Library, Rollins College

Rollins College is looking for an enthusiastic and service-oriented Reference and Instruction Librarian whose primary liaison duties will be to support the Science disciplines. This is a tenure track faculty position, and the successful candidate is expected to be appointed as an assistant professor. Primary responsibilities: The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of user services, including general and specialized reference service in traditional and digital environments, active participation in course related instruction, collection development, and liaison responsibilities with the teaching faculty in the departments of Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, and Physics. The successful candidate will participate in library-wide projects and activities, develop research guides and online tools, serve on library and campus committees, and promote information literacy initiatives.

Reference / Instruction Librarian – Government Publications

The McIntyre Library at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has a probationary tenure track faculty vacancy available at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Reference / Instruction Librarian – Government Publications with an anticipated start date of spring 2009. This is a 12-month, part-time (0.75 FTE) position reporting to the Director of Libraries.

McIntyre Library has a staff of 12.50 FTE library faculty, and 17 FTE classified staff. The Library maintains a very active information literacy program, provides access to a wide range of digital resources, is a selective state and federal document depository, and includes a regional historical research center and university archives. McIntyre Library has a collection of almost 600,000 titles, 2 million volumes, and 17,000 online and print periodical subscriptions; and works closely with other UW System libraries in keeping with the “One System, One Library” approach to the delivery of collections and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position manages and promotes the library’s collections and information technology to maximize their positive impact on teaching, learning, and research in the UW-Eau Claire community. Additionally, this position oversees the library’s Government Publications Collections.

Government Publications Duties
· Serves as the designated depository coordinator in compliance with the recommendations of the Federal Depository Library Program and the Wisconsin State Depository Program.
· Oversees collection development, access, organization and housing of the government collections, assuring ready access to government information, regardless of format.
· Increase awareness of and promote the use of federal and state documents within the library and to the University community

Reference/Instruction Duties
· Teaches library instruction/information literacy session, including specialized instruction for government information resource
· Serves as a liaison to assigned departments by consulting and collaborating with students and faculty to meet their information and instructional needs.
· Collaborates with other library faculty in planning, promoting and assessing information literacy initiatives.
· Staffs the reference desk, including some weekend and evening hours.

Faculty Duties
· Serves on appropriate Library, campus and UW System committees.
· Pursues continued study, scholarly activities, and creative work.
· Participates in professional and community service activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
· Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent, received by date of hire.
· Experience or coursework in government documents management and instruction.
· Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
· Demonstrated commitment to public service.
· Demonstrated commitment to professional development and potential to meet the library’s tenure and promotion requirements.
Preferred
· Experience providing quality reference service.
· Demonstrated commitment to teaching.
· Interest or background in the social sciences.
· Experience in an academic library.
· The ability to bring diverse cultural and ethnic perspectives to the campus and serve as a role model and mentor for women and/or minorities.
