Cataloging Librarian – Full Time
Experience Requirements:
The candidate must demonstrate personal initiative in applying relevant technologies to teaching, learning and bibliographic control. Must also be able to meet changing user needs; to learn, to critically evaluate and to troubleshoot new technologies. Must collaborate and communicate with Library administration and faculty and have research and cataloging skills needed to support faculty research and teaching initiatives. Candidate must have expertise in an online medium and have the vision to translate traditional library services into online media, including digital information and management of knowledge.
Education Requirements:
Must have MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution and at least 2 years of cataloging experience, preferably in an academic library; excellent interpersonal, organization, communication and presentation skills; an ability to interact and work with a diverse group of patrons and co-workers; and an ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Should be acquainted with services such as OCLC, ILLiad, SFX, MARC and metadata standards for the representation of library information in electronic format. Preference will be given to a candidate with a second subject Master’s degree or 30 additional graduate credits, and a knowledge of foreign languages.

Cataloging Librarian
Loyola Marymount University seeks a creative, flexible and collaborative Cataloging and Metadata Librarian. This position ensures that library resources are accessible to faculty, students, staff, and the public by means of a clear and consistent public catalog and classification order and metadata created for digital collections. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will participate in building a library collection, which supports the educational mission of the University.
Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education. Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean, LMU is one of the nation’s 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions. Minimum of two years cataloging experience, with at least one-year professional-level cataloging experience (including internships) using OCLC or similar national bibliographic database; knowledge of MARC, AACR2, LC classification, LC subject headings. Preferred experience: audiovisual cataloging; creation and/or management of digital objects in various text, image, sound, and/or video formats; original cataloging; regulating headings in an online catalog; familiarity with INNOPAC; familiarity with one or more of the following metadata standards: Dublin Core, METS, MODS, EAD, TEI, VRA Core.
