Business Reference & Instruction Librarian

Position Description: Reporting to the Head, Marvin A. Pomerantz Business Library, this position supports the education and outreach endeavors of the Business Library to the Tippie College of Business and the University of Iowa community.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver reference, instruction, and liaison services to business library clientele;
  • Cultivate relationships with faculty and researchers to identify opportunities for library partnerships;
  • Investigate emerging technologies and work with others to develop and revise programs to respond to the changing information needs of patrons;
  • Participate as a member of a team that plans, develops, and evaluates collections and services supporting instruction and research;
  • Serve on library committees and contribute to and learn from the profession through such avenues as local, state and national professional organizations and publications.
Required Qualifications:

Outreach & Inclusion Reference & Instruction Librarian

The EWU Libraries at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to begin in 2013. Position is available now.

This position is an 11-months per year, tenure-track library faculty appointment to perform professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities in librarianship will focus on reference and instruction activities at the JFK Library, Cheney campus, with liaison responsibilities to Race and Culture Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and other student support services.

Position Responsibilities include:

* Develop and implement outreach strategies to EWU's academic programs in collaboration with deans and faculty, Disability Support Services, the Office of Global Initiatives, the Pride Center, and other constituents who play key roles in supporting the Diversity Initiative and incorporating global perspectives into the curriculum.

* Educate and inform the EWU community through collaborative efforts on issues and opportunities related to diversity. Recommend initiatives that will develop a culture which embraces a broad definition of diversity and respect for our differences, including the use of exhibits, programs, and outreach efforts.

* Identify core competencies that librarians can incorporate into instruction and to embed diversity into the curriculum. Provide knowledge of diversity resources for EWU faculty, staff and students.

* Make recommendations for reinforcing a diversity perspective in all areas of the library's policies and procedures. Develop knowledge of internal and external requirements for EWU to ensure support for diversity and inclusion in accordance with University policy.

* Maintain relationships with key University and regional diversity resources.

* Work directly with the library student liaison to guide and promote outreach efforts.

* Provide reference and instruction services using resources that support diversity as it is broadly defined; such as multiculturalism, international studies, ethnic studies programs, and Disability Support Services. Serve as the library liaison to the Race and Culture Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and other student support services.

* Promote awareness of diversity resources within the library and develop library Web pages.

* Provide general assistance to all library patrons at the reference desk and online as scheduled. May be scheduled to work weekends or evenings.

* Assist all instruction librarians in supporting diversity. Prepare user guides, training materials, and programs to enhance instruction.

Executive Director

The Research Collections and Preservation Consortium (ReCAP), the country’s largest offsite library shelving facility, is jointly owned and operated by Columbia University, The New York Public Library, and Princeton University. ReCAP’s Board of Trustees is seeking an Executive Director to manage the facility and to work with the Board in planning for the growth of collaborative activities, positioning ReCAP to play a leadership role in a network of shared print repositories and implementing technical innovations to improve cross-institutional sharing and management of collections.

ReCAP occupies seven high-density, environmentally-controlled shelving modules capable of housing 18,000,000 items; it is staffed by 20 employees and is located on Princeton University’s Forrestal campus. ReCAP’s current holdings number over 10,000,000; roughly 150,000 items are trucked, mailed, or delivered electronically to users every year. Major Responsibilities: The Executive Director’s responsibilities include working with the Board and ReCAP staff, and with staff at partner libraries, on planning and operational issues and service improvements; acting as spokesperson for the facility; leading the staff; developing and managing the budget; overseeing the technology system and website; managing construction and renovation projects; and ensuring that ReCAP’s operation meets the expectations of the three partner libraries and their users.


The successful candidate will be a creative problem-solver who is skilled in fostering teamwork and who enjoys planning for the future. He or she will be a results-oriented self-starter who builds relationships easily with a wide variety of librarians, vendors, and visitors.


Essential Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree and five or more years of progressively responsible management experience in a library and/or a library storage facility.
  • Familiarity with basic research library operations such as collection development, preservation, technical services, and delivery and interlibrary services.
  • Three or more years of experience leading staff, and demonstrated team-building skills, including the ability to motivate, develop, and mentor others.
  • Strong record of outstanding service delivery.
  • Demonstrated strong consulting, negotiation, problem resolution, mediation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and information.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage budgets, and familiarity with processes for procurement, billing, and invoicing. Proficiency with office productivity software, including but not limited to spreadsheet, word processing, database management, and other office administrative software.
  • Experience with project management.

Preferred Qualifications: ALA-accredited master’s degree, M.B.A., or a master’s degree in a relevant subject area.

Collection Management Librarian

Responsibilities in librarianship will focus on leadership and coordination for all collection activities, including policy development, planning, budget management, promotion, analysis, and asssessment. The CM Librarian develops and evaluates methods of resource selection and use assessment to support student learning in campus-based, online/hybrid, and distance education courses in a wide range of academic programs.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership, coordination, and support for the creation, assessment, and analysis of the Libraries' collection policies and activities
  • Develops qualitative and quantitative methods of assessing the value and effectiveness of the Libraries' collections in supporting academic programs and University strategic priorities
  • Organizes usage and other collection-related data, statistics, and analysis, providing centralized access to this information for use in decision-making
  • Communicates and consults with liaison librarians and department faculty throughout the University to develop collections supporting the range of disciplines and course delivery methods

Data Services Librarian

UWM Libraries seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, and technologically capable individual to serve as a Data Services Librarian. This position supports the campus need to address quickly evolving data management processes. The successful candidate will play a leadership role creating a campus environment for successful discovery, use, and management of locally and externally available data especially in the areas of science and social science research. Duties include providing assistance to researchers who need help developing a data management plan, including data curation issues related to creation, documentation, and metadata standards; developing and promoting an understanding of the theory, principles, and evolving practice of scholarly communication; and developing library services to support the data curation needs of faculty, staff, and graduate researchers to meet the data management and sharing requirements of various funding agencies. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Libraries for User and Research Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Team Leader, the Catalog/Metadata Librarian will work with team members to:
  • Define, create and coordinate appropriate descriptive and subject access to the Libraries’ resources, performs original and complex copy cataloging and classification;
  • Collaborate with MARC and non-MARC metadata creators on the team and throughout the UWM Libraries to ensure uniform application of standards for resource description, and provide interpretations of developments as they evolve;
  • Assist with the application and interpretation of appropriate metadata schema to the Libraries’ resources;
  • Maintain knowledge of current issues and trends in national and international resource description standards and emerging technologies, and is expected to participate and contribute to the profession;
  • Participate in the documentation and implementation of local policies and procedures for resource description, and contribute to project management and planning cataloging and processing workflow;
  • Participate in the training and supervision of interns, fieldworkers and student employees.
Qualifications:
Required
  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, or the equivalent from an ALA-accredited program

Music Librarian

The University of Iowa Libraries seeks an innovative Music Librarian to work within the context of the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Libraries’ strategic plans and to collaborate with university faculty and staff to integrate and implement the best practices and most current technologies in support of student learning, the educational and enrichment programs of the School of Music, and faculty teaching and research. Specific responsibilities are:
  • Develop and implement a vision for the Music Library that supports the School of Music’s vision for education, research and service
  • Provide liaison services for the School of Music including reference, research, instruction, scholarly communications, data curation planning, and related responsibilities.
  • Assist undergraduate and graduate students in the use and critical evaluation of information resources and necessary information management skills.
  • Collaborate with library staff, School of Music leaders, campus facilities staff and architects on the planning of a new music library facility as part of the new School of Music building.
  • Collect, manage and maintain music publications and resources in all formats.
  • Supervise 1 support staff and various student employees, requiring competent and effective hiring, training, communication, coaching, performance management, conflict management, and recognition skills.
  • Oversee the day-to day-operations of the Music Library including space planning, staffing and services such as reference, circulation, document delivery and reserves.
  • Interact with appropriate Main Library personnel, Physical Plant Maintenance staff, and School of Music staff to maintain facilities and equipment for the use, preservation, and conservation of materials in the Music Library.
  • Participate in University Library initiatives by serving on Library and University committees and contributing to other relevant activities and events such as strategic planning.
  • Contribute to and learn from the profession through avenues such as regional, national, and international professional organizations and publications.

    Assistant Director for Information and Research Services

    William Paterson University invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director for Information and Research Services. Reporting to the Dean of Library Services, the Assistant Director provides leadership, vision and management of the Cheng Library’s instruction program and the Reference, Lending Services and Curriculum Materials departments. As a senior member of the library management team, the incumbent plays a critical role in strategic planning, assessment and collaboration with faculty and staff throughout the campus community.     The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science (SILS) holds the contract to provide library services for the US Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park. The Assistant Director works closely with the EPA Library Director on all facets of overall management of the library.     Departmental Overview


    The Interlibrary Services Department (ILS) of the UC Berkeley Library handles the borrowing and lending of library materials with other institutions in order to best support researchers in all fields and languages. Clientele are faculty, staff, students and independent researchers from the UC Berkeley and around the world. ILS consists of 13 FTE staff plus student library employees supporting three units: Interlibrary Borrowing, Interlibrary Lending and Photoduplication, and the Baker Document Delivery Service. In addition to the standard suite of software used by most library staff, ILS uses specialized equipment and software to receive, send, fill, deliver and track interlibrary loan and document delivery requests, as well as payments owed or collected. Specialized software includes: Virtual Document Exchange (VDX); CLIO; OCLC World Resource Sharing (WRS); CDL’s MELVYL Request System; ARIEL; OCLC’s Interlibrary Fee Management System (IFM); and special programs developed to allow efficient downloading, transcription and document storage. Specialized equipment includes a number of planetary and “feeder” scanners, electric carts, and digital fax machines. The Head of Interlibrary Services reports directly to the Associate University Librarian for Digital Initiatives & Collaborative Services, and works with that AUL’s management team to guide and coordinate the strategic directions, programs, services, facilities, and policies. Managers are committed to supporting staff development and fostering an environment of collaboration, creative thinking, and continuous improvement.


    Responsibilities

    • Manages the operations of UC Berkeley’s interlibrary/resource sharing and document delivery services, ensuring efficient centralized operations for the Library through leadership, direction and management.
    • Directly supervises professional staff and provides managerial support and guidance to a department with approximately 13 FTE including several staff and student supervisors.
    • Manages and oversees, through unit managers and other staff, the accountability and stewardship of campus financial resources in a manner consistent with campus and System-wide compliance goals and objectives, meeting all university reporting and record retention requirements.
    • Develops and administers policies, services, and programs which have a large impact on campus and the UC System.

    Required Qualifications

    Assistant Manager, Access Services

    The Assistant Manager, Access Services hires, schedules, trains, and evaluates the Student Information Assistants. Responsible for coordinating and participating in the training of student employees. In addition, the Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting in the operation of the Horn Library Information Desk.

    • Provides basic reference assistance with research in all formats and media to students, faculty, alumni, local business people, and residents using library resources. Refers to instructional librarians if necessary.
    • Communicates and enforces library policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and the public.
    • Troubleshoots and performs maintenance and minor repairs of A/V equipment and computer hardware. Coordinates complex repairs with the appropriate person within ITSD, taking ownership until resolution, and communicates as needed with members of the Access Services department.
    • Checks in/out and renews library materials, registers patrons, and collects fines using automated system (Millennium).
    • Participates in the course reserves workflow as necessary.
    • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
