Adelphi University Libraries seek a service oriented professional with website management experience to provide research assistance to patrons, teach students to effectively find information, and take a leadership role in the design, development and management of the Library website. Provides reference service, selects materials in assigned area(s), teaches information literacy, and is responsible for the oversight of the Library website. Chairs Library Web Committee, evaluates and recommends web applications and tools, and works with the Electronic Resources Librarian and others to promote and evaluate electronic resources. Advises on OPAC functionality and usability and keeps abreast of information technology trends. Represents the library to campus and external agencies. 

Qualifications: This is a tenure track library faculty position. Applicants must hold a master’s degree from an ALA accredited school of library/information science. A second post baccalaureate degree or similar proof of advanced study is highly preferred and is required for promotion to the rank of Associate Professor and tenure. It is desirable that applicants will have strong reference experience, preferably in an academic environment, 1-2 years website management experience, a basic understanding and familiarity with a CMS such as Wordpress, a strong interest in user interface design, and familiarity with current and emerging library technology and website best practices, trends and standards. The successful candidate will have a strong user service orientation, core academic values, library instruction experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to lead and build consensus among library faculty and staff, the ability to work in a collegial environment, and evidence of ability to meet criteria for promotion and tenure. 

Work Year: 190-day work year per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Archivist (Temporary)

The University of California, Irvine Libraries is seeking a dynamic professional for the temporary position of Archivist in the Department of Special Collections and Archives. This is a full-time temporary position which will be funded for one year from the date of hire, with a possibility of extension depending on operational and resource considerations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Archivist will be responsible for coordinating and performing the processing and management of archival and manuscript collections, including appraisal, accessioning, preparation of processing plans, arrangement and description, and preservation of materials in all formats and collecting areas.

Reporting to the Head of Special Collections & Archives and University Archivist, the Archivist works collaboratively within the department to set priorities and determine appropriate approaches to processing collections and preparing them for use. The Archivist implements uniform arrangement and description standards and ensures that materials are efficiently and effectively processed. The Archivist has responsibility for encoding finding aids using Encoded Archival Description (EAD) for contribution to the Online Archive of California. The Archivist trains and directs the work of processing assistants including paraprofessional archival processors and part-time students. The Archivist serves on the Department's reference desk. The successful candidate may also participate in instruction and outreach activities, digitization projects, preparation of exhibits, acquisition of manuscript and archival collections, donor relations, and grant proposals as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required:

• A graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution, or a graduate degree in archival studies, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Formal coursework or training in archival management and theory.

• Experience processing archival collections and preparing finding aids.

• Understanding of and commitment to nationally-accepted standards, tools, and best practices for archival processing and description, including Describing Archives: a Content Standard.

• Familiarity with using the Archivists’ Toolkit and encoding finding aids using Encoded Archival Description.

• In-depth knowledge of efficient processing procedures, such as those outlined in Greene and Meissner's "More Product, Less Process."

• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and effectively.

• Ability to successfully train and direct the work of archival processing assistants.

• Ability to provide effective reference service in an academic library.

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a team-based library organization within a culturally diverse academic community.

Preferred:

• Two or more years of professional archival processing experience.

• Recent experience providing reference service in a research or academic library.

• Work experience as a supervisor of archival processing assistants.

• Familiarity with basic records management principles and current trends.

Head of Academic Outreach

The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of Academic Outreach. At least two years supervisory experience.  Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.  Preferred:  Earned doctorate in a discipline represented at Virginia Commonwealth University.  Experience supervising librarians in the provision of library services.

Systems Software Quality Assurance Analyst

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Systems Software Quality Assurance Analyst carries out procedures to ensure that all information systems products and services meet minimum organization standards and end-user requirements. The position is responsible for the thorough testing of all software applications, and systems to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects. This position plans, designs, architects, and deploys effective testing for in-house product development, software application development, information system launches, and operations systems enhancements. The position documents, reports, and works to resolve all problems. The position devises improvements to current procedures and develops models of possible future configurations; performs work flow analysis and recommends quality improvements. This position manages testing efforts for small to medium projects and large enhancement projects with multiple team members. This position assists in the creation, set up and maintenance of environments and data for use in testing. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Ensures that testing activities will allow applications to meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues. Ensures and verifies that test schedules and plans are followed and executed properly. Communicates test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management. Ensure all impacted organizations are coordinated with and represented.
• Negotiates with vendors concerning software / hardware matters of feature functionality and delivery. Reviews software / vendor documentation to ensure feature functionality requirements are delivered. • Develops, distributes, and coordinates in-depth end-user reviews for modified and new systems or applications.
• Provides technical leadership in response to user requests and in the resolution of issues and problems.
• Performs code migration versioning and standards verification in the testing environment.
• Conducts all types of application testing as needed, such as system, unit, regression, load, user and acceptance testing methods. Disseminate knowledge of application-testing best practices.
• Manages complex software patch testing and applications, and performs complex integration and regression testing on new software.
• Analyzes formal test results in order to discover and resolve defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
• Analyzes documentation and technical specifications of any new application or systems under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
• Collaborates with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new software programs, systems and applications.
• Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develops testing strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
• Contributes to pre-testing phase of project development by evaluating proposals in order to identify potential problem areas, and make the appropriate recommendations.
• Produces reports and documentation for all testing efforts, results, activities, data, logging, and tracking.
• Works with network administrators, systems administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance and data processing.
• Creates positive experiences for library patrons by effectively and efficiently performing job tasks; presents a positive image of the library in attitude, communications and appearance while performing duties in and for the District.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two (2) years direct experience in software and systems quality assurance is required.
• Proven experience in the design, development, and implementation of software and systems testing solutions. Knowledge of continuous integration software tools and techniques is preferred.
• Must have strong knowledge of system testing and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies. Must have strong knowledge of user experience testing and usability techniques.
• Extensive experience with core software applications, including MS Office 2010, Visio is required.
• Direct hands-on experience with automated testing tools is required.
• Must be technically proficient in programming languages, including PHP, .NET.
• Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including windows 7, Windows 8, Linux, MAC OS X, and Windows Server 2008 is required.
• Must have working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, 802.11x, QoS, SSH, Telnet, FTP/SFTP, HHTP/HTTPS, SMTP, SSL, POP and OSI protocols.
• Must have project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures. Must be able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is required.

Outreach and Scholarly Services Librarian

Position: Cornell Law library seeks an energetic and creative librarian for a new Outreach and Scholarly Services Librarian position. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Research and Instruction, the Outreach and Scholarly Services Librarian is responsible for building productive relationships with faculty and students by developing and implementing the outreach activities of the Law Library.

• Develop, coordinate, and implement new and innovative library programs and services for faculty, students, and other groups in the law school and university community.

• Provide extensive reference and research service to the Law School and university communities in Anglo-American, international, and foreign law.

• Teach in the first year lawyering course and various research courses for upper level credit.

The Outreach and Scholarly Services Librarian participates in library planning committees and task forces and engages in campus, regional, and national professional organizations and collaborative activities, and is expected to be professionally active.

Database Programmer Analyst

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Database Programmer Analyst strategically designs and implements databases across the organization, while ensuring high levels of data availability. • Identify inefficiencies in current databases and applications architecture and.
• Install and configure relevant components to ensure database access.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Working technical experience with developing, installing, configuring and supporting multi-terabyte database environments is required.
• Must have experience with database platforms, including MySQL, MSSQL, Sybase, MS Access, and with database design applications and database versioning.
• Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices is required.
• Must have hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis.
• Familiarity with in-house data-intensive applications is required.
• In-depth technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows 7, Linux, MAC OS X, and Windows Server 2008 is required.
• Working technical knowledge of current database software, protocols, and standards is required.
• Knowledge and experience with data processing flowcharting techniques is required.
• Proven project management experience. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is required.

Life Sciences Librarian & Instruction Coordinator

Albert R. Mann Library, part of the Cornell University Library (CUL), is looking for a service oriented, creative, technically skilled professional who thrives in an innovative work environment and is energized by the opportunity to lead the library’s information literacy program.  Candidates should also have a strong background and interest in the life sciences in order to develop and implement highly effective services in support of Cornell’s talented and ambitious undergraduate life sciences students.  Working on a team of 15 colleagues who make up the Mann Library Services and Collections librarians, the Instruction Coordinator/Undergraduate Life Sciences Librarian will have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to the overall public services program at Mann Library.  The librarian in this position will also play a key role on the campus-wide information literacy team, which is embarking on a new initiative to build the CUL campus-wide information literacy program as part of the implementation of the Cornell University Library 2011-2015 strategic plan.  

Responsibilities:

Instruction Coordinator/Undergraduate Life Sciences Librarian will:

• Provide leadership and planning for the Mann Library instruction/information literacy program in response to College learning outcomes and evolving needs.
• Work with Mann Learning Technologies and Assessment Librarian to develop pedagogically rich tools and learning experiences to enhance information literacy programs.
• Serve as lead instructor for undergraduate life sciences information literacy programs, including partnering with faculty to integrate information literacy competencies into the undergraduate biology, agriculture and environmental sciences curricula.
• Develop and provide innovative information services for the undergraduate life sciences community.
• Serve as part of the team at Mann delivering general information services to the Cornell community, including reference and consulting services and instruction in information management. 

Required Qualifications:

• Subject degree or work experience in the life sciences.
• ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library, Information Science, Education, or equivalent graduate degree.
• Strong interest in working with undergraduates.
