Research, Instruction and Data Librarian for the Social Sciences

The Research and Instruction Department coordinates library support for learning, teaching, and research within the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. Research and Instruction Librarians provide research assistance services for faculty, students, and staff, offered within the library and virtually; partner with faculty to incorporate curriculum-based research and information literacy activities into courses; design library instruction workshops for students and faculty; and develop new models and programs to support research and the educational mission of the University.
The position of Research, Instruction, and Data Librarian for the Social Sciences provides leadership and expertise in developing library services related to the discovery, use, and management of locally and externally available datasets in the social sciences; primary research and instruction librarian for the academic departments of Anthropology and Sociology; assists in supporting other social sciences departments and interdisciplinary programs; supports the use of GIS in the social sciences; provides assistance to researchers in the social sciences writing grant-required data management plans; assists with first-year library instruction and citation tools workshops; provides general research assistance services both virtually and on the reference desk; serves on library-wide teams.

Basic Requirements:
  • Master's of Library Science.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Experience with library research tools relevant to the Social Sciences.
  • Experience working with and supporting students and faculty in academic departments via outreach, research assistance, and teaching; Demonstrated success integrating library services and resources into a social sciences curriculum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in the social sciences.
  • Knowledge of major quantitative software packages utilized in the social sciences such as Stata, SPSS, and SAS.
  • Knowledge of major qualitative software packages used in the social sciences such as NVivo and ATLAS.ti.
  • Knowledge surrounding the application of Geographical Information Systems and related software.
  • Knowledge of the scholarly communications process (publishing, copyright, repositories).

Assistant Library Director, Art Institute of Boston Library

Job Description:
Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, seeks a dynamic and experienced librarian to oversee the library at the Art Institute of Boston (AIB), one of Lesley University’s six schools.

The Assistant Library Director will provide a full range of reference, visual and information literacy services for undergraduate and graduate students in the arts as well as faculty and students engaged in art-related curricula throughout the University. Reporting to the Director of Lesley University and Episcopal Divinity School Libraries, this position serves as the art librarian for Lesley University and the Art Institute of Boston (AIB), providing leadership and coordination for art collections and services. The Assistant Library Director’s primary responsibilities include collaborating with art faculty to build print and online collections that serve the curriculum, and works with University librarians and library staff to develop information and visual literacy competencies instruction. This individual’s essential functions will include, but are not limited to, administration of the AIB Library, collection management, reference, instruction, supervision of staff, and collaboration in the AIB Library’s move from Boston to Cambridge.

Requirements:
An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science with five to seven years of experience in an academic setting, preferably in a University or art and design school, is required. The successful candidate will have a degree in art history, fine arts, design, art education and/or advanced arts-related degree. Work experience beyond the MLS, in such areas as reference, instruction and collection development and experience with managing digital collections and the ability to lead in their future development is necessary. Must demonstrate ability to provide leadership and work collegially, articulate and implement an innovative, flexible vision for library services, generate creative solutions and manage change and a desire to participate in collaborative problem solving. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Assistant Archivist; Assistant Professor in the University Libraries

Reporting to the Head of Special Collections and University Archivist, the Assistant Archivist accessions, arranges, describes and preserves the records of the university and other related collections. Library Assistant Director

Champlain College seeks an enthusiastic, collegial and service-oriented Librarian to serve as an integral member of a team providing high quality academic library services in an innovative setting. Professional library experience is a must, preferably in higher education; supervisory experience, preferably including supervision of librarian staff. Must have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; strong service orientation; ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff; ability to plan projects, report outcomes, and apply new technologies; expertise in experience with designing and managing information literacy instruction and assessment. The successful candidate will be well-informed about current practices, theory and issues; will show creativity, initiative, and flexibility; will have excellent writing skills; will be an articulate advocate for library initiatives, resources, and services; and will work collaboratively within the library, on campus, and in the profession. MAJOR DUTIES
Directs and administers all Library operations, including supervision of a civilian staff. Manages and leads the strategic planning of all Library services. Represents the Academy Library in college administrative groups and engages in partnerships to further integrate the Library’s mission with the Coast Guard Academy’s Strategic Plan. Continuing professional development in the field of Library Science beyond the Master’s degree

Strong record of successful library management in higher education, including project leadership; effective response to changing roles of academic libraries and the needs of the community they support; and experience working with and developing budgets

Solid evidence of successful collaborations with faculty and students
