Southern Oregon University invites applicants and nominations for the position of Dean of University Library. The Position
The Dean of University Library in collaboration with library faculty oversees all operations and services of Hannon Library. Within a collegial environment the Dean leads and inspires faculty and staff in implementing the Hannon Library vision for the future; seeks extramural support; promotes library development initiatives; provides technological leadership for the library; supports the development and implementation of an information literacy program for students; engenders a dynamic, client-centered service environment; fosters the development of quality collections and services, and encourages assessment activities at all levels. The Dean of University Library reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and works cooperatively with the Library faculty and staff within a collegial system of shared governance. The Dean participates in the Deans Council and the Academic Planning Council. The Dean is eligible for tenure at the rank of Full Professor.
Qualifications
Required
· ALA accredited master’s degree.
· An earned doctorate or second subject master’s degree.
· Wide understanding of the current technological information environment.
· Thorough understanding of the nature and inter-relationship of all operations of the contemporary academic library.
· Knowledge of emerging trends in academic librarianship.
· Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Successful record of collaborative leadership in a collegial environment.
· Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible and successful management experience in an academic library.

E-Learning Librarian
E-Learning Librarian Doe/Moffitt Libraries Hiring Range: Associate Librarian I - VI$47,868-$62,556 per annum, based upon qualifications
The University of California, Berkeley seeks an energetic and creative user services librarian to provide leadership in the area of online instructional design in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries and to coordinate, facilitate, and develop online instructional design projects that promote the effective use of information resources and research strategies for a variety of courses, programs, and audiences. The E-Learning Librarian collaborates with library staff, campus staff, and faculty on the creation and use of online instructional materials, methods and services, and contributes to instruction and reference services.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Head of Instructional Services, the successful candidate will coordinate and facilitate online library-related instruction for Berkeley’s diverse student population through a variety of media. In collaboration with library staff, faculty, and other campus partners, the incumbent will design, develop, promote, and assess the effectiveness of curricular materials, tutorials and other digital learning objects for an array of disciplines. Providing technology training to colleagues may be required of this position.
As the liaison to campus’s Educational Technology Services, the incumbent will be an active participant in campus discussions related to educational technologies, information literacy, and services to undergraduates, as well as integrating those services into the campus learning management system. The E-Learning Librarian will be expected to provide leadership vision as the Library investigates and experiments with emerging technologies that could strengthen online instructional efforts in support of the curriculum and academic programs.
The E-Learning Librarian will participate in the department’s instruction program by presenting course-related instruction and drop-in workshops and will provide up to 10 hours per week of reference services in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, with some evening and weekend shifts.
Professional contributions beyond the primary job, such as publications, leadership in University and professional organizations, and other research and creative activity, are required for advancement within the Librarian series. Candidates must show evidence of or potential for such contributions.
Qualifications
Required:
- MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent degree.
- Experience teaching library instruction classes in an academic environment, preferably to undergraduate students.
- Familiarity with the concepts and goals of information literacy.
- Knowledge of instructional design principles in an online environment.
- Knowledge of learning technologies and their application to instruction in a university environment.
- Experience using web development applications such as Dreamweaver, Flash, Camtasia and/or Captivate and scripting languages such as JavaScript.

JOB SUMMARY:
The George A. Smathers Libraries is recruiting for the position of Senior Director of Development. The Senior Director of Development, designs, implements and manages the fundraising and donor relations program for the George A. Smathers Libraries. This position serves as a senior member of the Library Administration and participates in strategic planning for development and manages Development Council activities. Working collaboratively with the library directors, chairs and librarians, the Senior Director of Development has primary responsibility for directing library efforts that encompass major gifts, donor stewardship, development of public support groups, fundraising event coordination and relations between the Libraries, its Development Council, the University of Florida and the UF Foundation, Inc. The incumbent is responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and the stewardship of major gift prospects. Though office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. considerable after hours and weekend activities are essential to satisfactory performance. Extensive travel is also required.
The duties of this position include:
1. Works closely with the Dean of University Libraries and library administration to define and prioritize funding needs.
2. Advises the University of Florida Associate Vice President for Development and the Dean of University Libraries on library-related fundraising issues; participates in activities relative to campus-wide campaign planning and ongoing development issues; coordinates development activities between the Libraries, its Development Council, UF and the UF Foundation, Inc. Recommends Foundation policies for the long-term development of private support for Smathers Libraries.
3. Serves as the major gifts fundraiser; plans, organizes and directs activities to secure major gifts; and, on a case by case basis, coordinates the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private support from donors to the Smathers Libraries from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The incumbent focuses on individual, corporate, and foundation prospects primarily at the $100,000 level and above. Extensive travel is required. 4. Establishes and maintains contact with prospects to develop their interest and participation in major library fundraising projects and to provide information concerning the utilization of gifts.
5. As steward of major gift prospects, coordinates with library staff their appropriate involvement with donors interested in specific library activities.
6. Explores funding opportunities that coincide with the library's strategic plan and the University's interdisciplinary focus; e.g., technology enhancements, academic department and program support, research collection development.
7. Oversees the Smathers Libraries Development Council; prepares a strategic plan including goals and objectives; develops agendas supporting their fund raising activities, and maintains constructive dialogues and contacts with the members.
8. Oversees a strong public relations program for donors and potential donors; works with the Alumni Association utilizing library staff in Alumni events to increase recognition of the library among the alumni of the University.
9. Manages the operations of the Development, Grants and Public Information functions of the libraries; hires, supervises and evaluates staff; oversees maintenance of files and records associated with these activities.
10. Participates in professional programs at the state and national level as appropriate (CASE, DORAL, ALADN).
Minimum qualifications:
1. Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school, or equivalent advanced degree in library or information science.
2. Strong oral and written communication skills.
3. Ability to organize, establish objectives and priorities and achieve goals in an aggressive organizational environment.
4. Experience managing staff to achieve multiple strategic objectives.
5. Broad experience in capital campaign execution and follow-up.
6. Demonstrated ability to close major gift solicitations, including planned giving.
7. Strong interpersonal skills and the temperament to work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, both inside and outside the organization.
Preferred qualifications:

Coordinator of College Liaisons
POSITION: This position reports to the Assistant Dean and is responsible for coordinating the College Liaisons unit and overseeing the library faculty and staff who are the primary liaisons between the Libraries and the University colleges and departments. The Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing effective user- and college-centered research assistance, instruction, and outreach services for faculty and students. This position also works closely with other units in the library to provide integrated services to the academic community. The librarians in the College Liaison unit perform collection development, provide in-depth research assistance, offer instruction, and are responsible for making their departments/colleges aware of library services.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The coordinator is responsible for the following:
- Managing the unit including the supervision and leadership of 12 FTE faculty and 1-2 FTE state classified
- Ongoing assessment and evaluation of services in the unit
- Working with the unit’s liaisons to promote and assess library instruction and support the Libraries’ campus-wide information literacy initiative
- Working with the University’s/Library’s digital repositories to promote their uses to the University community
- Promoting collaborative efforts with colleges and departments, and marketing library services
- Working collaboratively with Collections and Contracts Services, participating in selection, assessment, and evaluation of library collection resources
- Assuring coverage of subject assignments by the College Liaisons and may, as needed, be responsible for a subject discipline
- Participating in library assessment activities related to user services
- Providing reference and research assistance in coordination with the Information Desk and other units
- Working with campus faculty and departments to identify opportunities for innovative library partnerships and outreach
- Promoting campus awareness of scholarly communication issues
The coordinator serves as a member of the Libraries Planning Group with responsibility for both influencing and promoting the Libraries strategic plan(s) and its implementation. A coordinator is expected to play the dual role of advocate for the service area and for the Library goals and objectives. This role includes fostering active, open communication among the administration, division, and unit, and encouraging collaboration beyond the service area.

RANK AND SALARY: Faculty status and responsibilities. 12-month, tenure-track appointment with contract reviewed annually until tenure is granted. Rank is dependent upon qualifications. Insurance benefits are available. Faculty may select from several options for medical, life, dental, and personal disability insurance, as well as retirement plans. Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program. Successful management experience at the professional level in an academic or research library. Resource development experience including donor relations and grant writing. Collection development, reference and instruction experience in one or more of the following areas: architecture, architectural history, community or urban planning, historic preservation, interior design, or landscape architecture.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing budgets. Experience leveraging emerging technologies to improve and maintain sustainable services. Experience leading and managing change efforts. Experience working successfully with faculty and and/or college administrators. Experience managing archival or special collections. An advanced degree in an applicable subject area. Demonstrated leadership in library, university, state, national, and international programs and initiatives. Evidence of well-developed interpersonal skills, initiative, creative energy, resourcefulness, and a strong commitment to public service. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and problem solving skills.
Salary and Benefits: $60,000 annually negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. No state or local income tax. Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive major medical, dental, vision, life, and disability). Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.

Collection Development Officer
Responsibilities
The successful candidate evaluates the collection for currency and relevance to the university curriculum and other collection development goals; develops acquisition and weeding projects; advises in the appropriate allocation and expenditure of all library materials funds; monitors encumbrance and expenditure of the materials budget; carries out collection development responsiblities for the library's reference collection; participates in serial selection and deselection activities; supervises two staff members; works with liaisons to facilitate collection development activities including training and interacting with faculty regarding collection development issues; participates in cooperative activities among area libraries.
Requirements
ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science. Two years experience in collection development activities. Strong analytical and decision making skills. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Professional experience in an academic library.
Preferred:Second master's degree, liaison experience, supervisory experience. Demonstrated record of research and service.
Salary and Rank
$43,500-$50,000 for 12 months commensurate with the candidate's education and experience. Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.

Assistant Head, Non-Print Management Department
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Library’s Ordering and Metadata Management (OMM) unit within the Non-Print Department, including: the ordering and purchase of e-resources and media materials of all kinds; a leadership role in the provision of original cataloging and metadata for non-print materials and digital projects; and license and vendor negotiations. Assigns staff responsibilities and duties; sets daily and long-term priorities; manages workflow; identifies and resolves problems; plans, organizes, and oversees projects; and ensures that the OMM group runs efficiently and smoothly. Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating 5-9 FTE staff, planning training programs, and producing training materials. Writes reports, does statistical analysis, and participates in planning and integrating the activities of the Technical Services Division as a whole to ensure the achievement of Divisional goals. Works closely with the Assistant Head, Resource and Receipt Control to coordinate and plan Department work and will be expected to have a broad understanding of all Department activities and related technical services best practices. Also works closely with Collection Development and other Departments on digital and non-print projects.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; additional advanced degree preferred. At least 4 years demonstrated successful experience in increasingly responsible positions managing or supervising e-resource and media ordering, licensing and cataloging and/or database maintenance activities in academic or research libraries. Knowledge of and experience with LC classification, AACR2, LCSH, and a variety of metadata and associated functional standards and tools (Dublin Core, MODS), OCLC, and cataloging in non-print formats, including both serials and monographs. Experience with digital projects (e.g. repositories) and integrated library systems, especially III's Millennium system, preferred. Excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal, communications, supervisory, project management and organizational skills desired. Ability to work internally and externally with a wide variety of individual at all levels, a strong service orientation, and demonstrated commitment to staff development and diversity in the workplace.
