Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Lesley University and Episcopal Divinity School Libraries, this position serves as the art librarian for Lesley University and the Art Institute of Boston (AIB) at Lesley University, providing leadership and coordination for art collections and services. The Assistant Library Director’s primary responsibilities include collaborating with art faculty to build print and online collections that serve the curriculum, and works with University librarians and library staff to develop information and visual literacy competencies instruction. This individual’s essential functions will include, but are not limited to, administration of the AIB Library, collection management, reference, instruction, supervision of staff, and collaboration in the AIB Library’s move from Boston to Cambridge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with the senior management team to ensure that the policies and procedures of the AIB Library are consistent with the overall mission of the University Libraries
  • Collaborates with the Visual Resources Curator to develop and expand the digital image collection  to meet the curriculum needs of the University community
  • Acts as liaison to AIB faculty by participating in curriculum committee, Dean’s Council and Department Chair meeting and other college committees as appropriate
  • Establishes goals, monitors progress, evaluates employee performance and supports staff development
  • Collaborates with Sherrill Library reference team and AIB faculty to implement an effective information and visual literacy program
  • Promotes and publicizes library collections and services to the faculty and students of Lesley University
  • Performs other duties as assigned or developed

Requirements:
  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program of library and information science.
  • A degree in art history, fine arts, design, art education and/or advanced arts-related degree.
  • A minimum of three years of increasing responsibilities in management of an academic or arts-related institution.
  • Work experience beyond the MLS, in such areas as reference, instruction and collection development.
  • Experience managing digital collections and the ability to lead in their future development are required.
  • Must be able to work in a multi-staff environment with the demonstrated ability to provide leadership, work collegially, and participate in collaborative problem-solving.  
  • Ability to articulate and implement an innovative, flexible vision for library services.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Head of Web Services


The Ohio University Libraries seeks applications and nominations for an innovative and collaborative professional to provide leadership and direction as Head of Web Services.   This recently formed department will bring vision and expertise to planning, developing, implementing and maintaining robust web technology supporting the Libraries’ mission.

The successful candidate will be joining the Libraries at an exciting time because a new strategic plan is underway, with its vision of the Libraries as being a “dynamic gateway for the discovery, creation and exchange of knowledge, which enables students, faculty and staff to realize their promise and to achieve excellence.”

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Head of Web Services is the primary planner for the Libraries’ web development, its productivity tools and public computing.  The Head of Web services will work closely with staff to develop responsive and progressive services and applications to match a rapidly changing information landscape.  In collaboration with other department heads, this individual provides critical leadership for the planning, evaluation, development and promotion of the Libraries’ current and next generation of web services and information systems.

The Head of Web Services serves as an advisor to the University Libraries’ senior management team as it pertains to the developments in information technology, policy, security, management and resource needs.  The Head directs the assignments of a staff of three and represents the Libraries on campus and at OhioLINK committees, as well as regional and national organizations.

Specifically, the Head of Web Services’ departmental duties include:

  • Collaborates with the Libraries’ department heads to plan and to implement future web interfaces, technologies and innovations to the Web site, a WordPress site, in order to ensure a dynamic, interactive and user-friendly experience.
  • Manages the Libraries’ Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system, including regular system maintenance and performance improvements.
  • Designs, operates and maintains specialized library systems, such as proxy server and EBSCO Discovery service.
  • Oversees innovation in the Libraries’ mobile presence.
  • Assists with the maintenance and implementation of CONTENTdm and Omeka, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains a productive, service-oriented staff by overseeing and mentoring the supervision and training in the department, providing oversight for personnel actions, and providing opportunities for educational and experiential growth.
  • Communicates complex technical issues effectively to a variety of stakeholders; works closely with Ohio University’s Office of Information Technology to ensure effective, efficient and user-oriented services across the Libraries.
  • Serves as the lead implementer for OhioLINK technology projects.
  • Pursues and administers grant proposals for the Libraries’ technology projects.
  • Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations and participation in regional and national associations as part of the continuing commitment to bring best practices and innovative services to Ohio University students and faculty.

Qualifications
Required

  • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • An understanding of the role and the influence of networked scholarly resources in meeting the diverse teaching, learning and research needs of a university community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with web and content-management systems, integrated library systems, discovery systems, computer hardware and software, and network operating systems.
  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in a library technology environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to data-informed decision making processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to enable communication of complex technology issues and strategies to a diverse community
  • Successful supervisory experience.

Preferred
  • Experience administering an Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system.
  • Experience developing and maintaining library proxy servers, link resolvers, mobile applications, content management systems, and discovery services.
  • Experience with open source and LAMP-based applications used in libraries
  • Experience leading teams and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Experience writing and administering grants.

College Librarian

Senior Librarian – Digital Archivist


The Fort Worth Library is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Librarian – Digital Archivist.  The qualified candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques and trends in archival theory and concepts; archives management; and knowledge of general print and electronic information resources.  Must be knowledgeable in the legal, fiscal, administrative and historical value of archive records including experience in evaluating, appraising, and accessioning archive collections. A minimum of two years  of  professional  experience  in  a  manuscript,  archival  or  special  collections  setting,  including development and digitization of archive collections; knowledge of metadata schemes used in the development of archival finding aids; collections processing; preservation techniques. Experience with a digital asset management system is required, preferably   CONTENTdm; the ability to oversee and administrate a digital archive including selection of digital collections; creation of metadata, collection and server rights selection; digital conversion; website customization; and publishing of digital content. The ability to learn new programming languages is required.  The successful candidate will advise the library on industry changes to file formats; prepare proposals for external funding for digital preservation projects; and prepare specifications for vended services. Excellent  organizational skills; an awareness  of  current  trends  in  collection  development;  strong  Internet  and computer   skills;   a  track  record   of  successful   adult   programming   for  diverse   communities;   well-developed communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to work independently, in a team setting, and to supervise archive projects; and the capacity to handle multiple tasks are also qualifications necessary for this position.  Must have a strong commitment to public service and enjoy working directly with the public.

This position is responsible for supporting the unit’s ongoing operations, including digitization and publication of archive collections to the Library’s Digital Archives; selection and collection development; organization and description of archival collections; reference/research services by telephone, e-mail, and in person; and developing innovative approaches to deliver superior customer service. 

Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA accredited school PLUS 2 years increasingly responsible professional library and digital archives experience.  Training and  supervisory experience  in archives  management  and support  of a  digital  file  management  system  is  preferred.     Working some evenings and weekends is required. Preference will be given to applicants who are Certified Archivists.

Responsibilities: Reporting to a seven-member Board of Trustees, the Library Director has responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating all activities of the library system in accordance with accepted professional library practices. Assistant University Librarian (AUL)


The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks an innovative, creative, flexible, and knowledgeable leader to join our organization as Assistant University Librarian (AUL) for Administrative Services.  The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic staff in developing an excellent research library for a university ranked nationally among the best.  The AUL has an unusual opportunity to actively participate in shaping the quality and character of the Libraries during a time of change, challenges, and new opportunities.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the University Librarian, the AUL for Administrative Services is the senior administrator responsible for ensuring effective and efficient utilization of the financial, facilities, and human resources of the UCI Libraries and directs the Libraries’ planning, assessment, and research efforts.   In close collaboration with the University Librarian, the AUL coordinates the Libraries’ strategic planning and organizational development programs.  The AUL directly supervises the Administrative Services Division, consisting of three departments (Human Resources, Finance, and Facilities) with a current professional and clerical staff of twelve individuals.  The AUL works with Administrative Services staff to establish goals and objectives for the division and is responsible for the overall planning, budgeting, resource allocation and administration of the division.

The AUL for Administrative Services provides leadership within the Libraries for human resources management, employee relations, and staff development; for space planning and facilities utilization; and for financial services and budget allocation.  The AUL oversees recruitment, hiring, performance evaluation, and training of staff at all levels; promotes excellent management skills throughout the Libraries; and works to develop a positive work environment.  In addition, the AUL provides expertise and vision in the development of grant proposals and is responsible for coordinating the grants program/process.

As director of the Libraries’ planning, assessment and research efforts, the AUL for Administrative Services ensures that excellent research, analysis, planning, measurement, and reporting are integral parts of all programs and services in the UCI Libraries.  The AUL develops and manages the Libraries’ capability to conduct effective planning, and directs ongoing and targeted assessments of resources and services.  The AUL leads the Libraries’ strategic planning and analysis for the effective allocation of new resources and the reallocation of existing resources including budgets, staffing, and space, to meet current needs, and to anticipate future priorities.  In this role, the AUL works closely with an array of people and units across the Libraries and the University on a wide variety of issues. 

As a member of the UCI Libraries’ Leadership Council, the senior management team for the Libraries, the AUL for Administrative Services shares responsibility library-wide for collaborative, innovative, and excellent leadership, management, and decision-making; ensures organizational effectiveness and efficiency; and shares in library-wide responsibilities for resource management and development of library policies.

Working closely with other University offices and leaders, the AUL ensures that the Libraries are in alignment with UC policies, initiatives, and strategic directions.  The AUL for Administrative Services represents the Libraries at the UCI Academic Senior Managers (ASM) group, a campus-wide group of academic assistant deans or assistant dean level academic positions.   In addition, the AUL is an active participant in the UC Human Resources Officers group and works collaboratively with colleagues from other UC campuses to share information and resolve issues of UC-wide concern.  The AUL for Administrative Services represents the Libraries in other University, regional, and national bodies as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in library or information science or other relevant discipline.

The Libraries

Position Description: Reporting to the Conservator, Preservation/Conservation, the Assistant Conservator performs treatment, coordinates various departmental activities, assists the Conservator with lab organization and training, and provides outreach and educational opportunities. Specific duties include:

  • Perform a wide range of conservation treatment on books, manuscripts, maps and other paper based materials.
  • Assist with the evaluation of library materials, advise on selection of collection items for treatment.
  • Perform single-item and collection care treatments, including full treatment documentation.
  • Oversee the environmental monitoring program.
  • Participate in all disaster prevention and recovery operations or other activities involving the protection and handling of collections.
  • Assist the Conservator with the management of all library exhibitions and loans. Survey, document, treat and prepare materials for exhibit.
  • Maintain and manage daily workflows, compile statistics, and train students and volunteers.
  • Cultivate, initiate and participate in a variety of outreach activities relative to preservation, exhibitions, or other appropriate areas.
  • Create and update website information for educational and outreach purposes.
  • Seek out opportunities for continued training and development.


Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced book or paper conservation degree, certificate in book or paper conservation or related field, or equivalent conservation experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in book and/or paper conservation treatment and a working knowledge of conservation theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Knowledge or understanding of artists materials, book structure, and book/print history.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, collaboration and cooperation are essential.
  • Demonstrated interest in professional development.
  • Understanding of the mission of a research university and the value of library collections in an academic and research environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in book and paper conservation in an academic or research library or museum setting.
  • Experience in training students or volunteers.
  • Strong computing and digital media skills.
  • Photography skills.

Salary and appointment: Appointment will be made at the Librarian level with a salary range of $43,000 - $46,000. Start date is negotiable.
