The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position Research and Education Librarian at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences. The VCU Libraries seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, and technologically capable individual who will support the teaching, research, outreach, and user support missions of the VCU Libraries on the MCV Campus. The incumbent will develop and deliver Web-based tutorials, workshops, and classroom programs that teach research skills, promote information literacy, and enhance the student experience at VCU.  The successful candidate will join a culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director, Research and Education, the Research and Education Librarian will develop and provide instruction, research, and outreach support for the VCU Medical Center.  Guide faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of library services and resources to support evidence based practice. Apply adult learning theories, principles, and practices to support teaching and learning. Deliver library instruction using technology tools including course management systems, web conferencing systems, audience response systems, mobile devices, and podcasts. Serve as a liaison to a specified health sciences program or school at the VCU Medical Center. Provide in-depth and on demand research consultations for individuals and small groups. The Research and Education Librarian will be an active member of the library’s education and outreach programs, teaching general orientation sessions, course-integrated instruction and workshops; developing course content and instructing students in the classroom; leading tours and staffing outreach and orientation events. Assume a leadership role in developing and coordinating special programs as needed.  The Research and Education Librarian is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Faculty with the VCU Libraries are evaluated, and promoted, on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.

Qualifications

Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline.  Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
 Preferred: Experience working in an academic health sciences library setting. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in graduate and professional education. Experience teaching to a variety of audience levels. Strong knowledge of Web 2.0 and emerging instructional methods and technologies. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in teaching and learning in academic library instruction. Experience searching relevant resources such as PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL to assist with literature reviews, systematic reviews, and mediated searching. Demonstrated success in the application of technology to support student learning and familiarity with Web authoring tools. Understanding of scholarly communications and an awareness of national trends in scholarly publishing. Experience in evaluating and using electronic resources.  Ability to work independently as well as with a team.  Strong service orientation.  Excellent presentation and public speaking skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities under pressure. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Flexibility and adaptability for work in an evolving, fast-paced environment. Willingness to seek membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).

Research and Instructional Services Librarian

 
Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries seeks a Research and Instructional Services Librarian. Library Instruction Fellowship


Responsibilities:   The Library Instruction Fellowship is a two-year fellowship that offers a recent graduate the opportunity to work in a research library on diverse activities supporting instruction and information literacy initiatives.  As a member of the Liaison Services Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in face-to-face and online environments.  This fellowship position will help further the goals of the instruction program by working collaboratively with liaison librarians and the Coordinator of Undergraduate Instruction in the planning, teaching, and assessment of instruction sessions, with a particular focus on lower-level undergraduate classes.  There will be a strong emphasis on utilizing active learning techniques and classroom assessment techniques.  This fellow will have opportunities to assist in outreach events, training, creating  LibGuides, tutorials, class materials, and serve as a member of the Instruction Management Committee.  In addition, this fellow will participate in some other departmental activities such as reference services.  The position reports to the Head of Liaison Services for Instruction & Outreach.

Senior Community Library Manager


The Contra Costa County Library is seeking qualified individuals to fill the position of Senior Community Library Manager.  Presently, there is one (1) full-time (40/40) vacancy located in Concord, California and three (3) additional Senior Community Library Manager vacancies in other locations within the Library system.

The County Library operates twenty-six (26) community libraries within a 750 square mile area and serves close to 1 million urban, suburban and rural patrons with an annual circulation exceeding 7.4 million.    

Incumbents are responsible for day-to-day administration and operation of a Community Library.  This includes responsibility for the supervision of subordinate personnel; development of material collections appropriate for the community served by the Library; development and implementation of a plan of service; recommendations to County Library Administration regarding community needs and improvements in library service patterns; and the establishment and maintenance of direct liaison between the Community Library, city, school district, Library Friends, and local groups to encourage good community relations.  The employment list established from this examination will remain in effect for a period of six months.

 Monthly Salary Range $5,372-$6,861 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

License Required:  Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Education:  Possession of a Master of Library Science degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or equivalent curriculum. Experience:  Three (3) years of full-time equivalent professional/supervisory library experience, which must have included experience as a Community/Branch Library Manager in a public library. OR Four (4) years full-time equivalent experience working in a library, which may include two (2) years as support staff, technician or paraprofessional, and at least two (2) years in a professional/supervisory level.

Metadata Coordinator


Responsibilities:  Reporting to the Head of Metadata and Bibliographic Services, the successful candidate will work closely with the Digital Services and Special Collections Departments to provide leadership and support in metadata creation, maintenance and enhancement for digital resources. This incumbent will also develop approaches to ensure the quality and consistency of metadata in core library systems; translate metadata among different formats and integrate metadata from a variety of sources; be responsible for exploring, evaluating and recommending alternative metadata and emerging technologies that can be applied in the libraries’ broader discovery environment; participate in reviewing, developing and implementing metadata application policies and procedures; lead projects, workflow design and training involving metadata and use of metadata in digital repositories and other discovery systems; assist in loading or batch loading of electronic theses and dissertations into the library catalog; keep current with trends, innovations and best practices affecting library metadata and digital collections. The Metadata Coordinator will initially supervise one classified staff position.

Working collaboratively with other Brookens Library faculty and staff, plans, manages and delivers excellent services in the library’s learning spaces, reference/information spaces and Access Services unit.  Serves as a liaison to assigned departments, providing instructional and collection development services.   Manages student engagement initiatives, including outreach to high school groups.  Works with other instructional services librarians to promote information literacy and lifelong learning. 
Qualifications:
Minimum:  Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school and at least three years of public service and instructional experience in an academic library.  Experience in managing library learning spaces, including planning for and implementing technology upgrades.  Knowledge of circulation and interlibrary loan best practices.  Knowledge of Web 2.0 best practices as applied to libraries.  Ability to contribute in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Evidence of user-focused perspective.

Director of the Research Commons, Assistant or Associate Professor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  Reports to the Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS).  The Director of the Research Commons is a member of the Administrative Team, responsible for managing all units of the Research Commons including reference services, collection management, subject liaison librarians, and University Archives & Special Collections.  The Director works with the Commons faculty and staff to plan, develop, implement, and assess all aspects of the Research Commons.  The Director and subject librarians provide input to the Director of Instruction and Outreach in developing the general instruction program.  As an information professional in a tenure-track faculty position, regular contributions are required in scholarship, research and other creative activities in library and information science, or related disciplines.  A high level of proficiency in librarianship, including the use of relevant technology and best practices in public services is expected.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·      Provides leadership in long-range planning and transformational change
·       Leads the planning, management, and oversight of the Research Commons, ensuring continuous innovation and excellent user experience
·       Trains, evaluates and directs the work of faculty and staff in the Research Commons

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Master’s degree in library or information science from an A.L.A. accredited library school.  Two years post M.L.S. experience in an academic or research library.  Strong vision for user-focused information resources and delivery.  Dedicated service orientation.  Professional expertise in the design, delivery, management and assessment of library information resources and services.  Demonstrated leadership skills.  Experience as manager or team leader in one or more of the following areas:  reference services, collection management, subject liaison responsibilities, university archives, and/or special collections.  Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills.  Demonstrated ability to meet LIS and university standards in librarianship, research and professional service in fulfillment of tenure requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:  Experience in team building.  Evidence of successful supervision or evaluation of librarians in a tenure track environment.  Demonstrated success in collaborative endeavors.  Experience in collection assessment.  Experience in planning and implementing a departmental budget.  Experience with emerging technologies in information resource delivery. Record of scholarship and/or creative activity and professional service.

Head of Access Services, Tisch Library, Tufts University


The Tisch Library at Tufts University seeks a collaborative, innovative, and user-oriented librarian to provide leadership for the Access Services Department, including circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, consortial resource sharing, and stack management. Tisch Library supports Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering.

The Head of Access Services will develop, implement, manage, and evaluate a department that anticipates and responds to changing user needs and emerging technologies. The person in this position will be committed to a culture of assessment, using data assessment tools to understand user needs, and will proactively promote services. The successful candidate will have a passion for staff development and a commitment to creating a culture of learning among staff.

Tisch Library is in the initial stages of planning for the renovation of key user spaces; the Head of Access Services will play a major role in that planning and in the re-visioning of public services at Tisch. The department head will work closely with the Head of Research & Instruction to ensure seamless customer services and to integrate library services into Tufts’ Learning Management System.

This is a senior leadership position that serves on the Library Management Council; works collaboratively with other senior managers to carry out Tisch Library’s strategic goals; and coordinates access services policies with other Tufts libraries. Reporting to the Associate Director of Research, Instruction, and Information Resources, the Head of Access Services oversees a department of 8.5 full-time staff and 4 academic year staff, with 5 direct reports.

Position Requirements: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; at least 5 years supervisory experience in an academic library; hands-on expertise using an integrated library system; demonstrated collaborative and team building skills; knowledge of emerging technologies in resource sharing; evidence of a strong service orientation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Innovative Interfaces; proven record of change management, innovation, and commitment to staff development; data assessment skills; experience in promotional initiatives; understanding of information seeking behaviors and search strategies; experience with copy/print/scan services; knowledge of copyright and fair use; familiarity with Learning Management Systems such as Sakai.
