General Description:	Pacific Lutheran University seeks an experienced and forward-thinking librarian with enthusiasm to lead our Technical Services unit. This individual will oversee the acquisition budget and take the lead on planning and evaluating Technical Services staff and operations. They will lead in the use of new digital and bibliographic technology as well as contribute to the library’s institutional repository initiative. The incumbent will also provide some reference service, and teach course-integrated instruction and perform collection development duties in one or more disciplines. This individual will also be engaged in scholarly and service activities expected of faculty librarians. It is anticipated that the individual who fills this position will have the opportunity to lead the library in the selection of its next generation library system, take a lead role in developing processes and policies surrounding implementation, and serve as a key collaborator in the library’s ongoing development of digital collections and services. The Technical Services Librarian is a member of the Library Services Team Leads and works in collaboration with the faculty librarians and the university archivist. Reports to the Director for Library Services. The successful candidate will have the option of either tenure track or clinical faculty status, contingent on the candidate’s qualifications and interests. The librarian is expected to work as a peer with faculty, and to develop collegial relationships with faculty and others via research assistance and committee work. This is a full-time, twelve-month position.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:	We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated technical services experience and leadership skills, and who also possesses the desire to contribute in the public services arena. They will: ● Provide day-to-day support and direction to staff in cataloging, acquisitions, serials/continuations, processing, binding, and preservation, including staff development, training, and evaluation. ● Provide a vision for and take the lead in planning for the Technical Services unit with an aim toward creative use of staff and technology for maximum efficiency. ● Assist in the management of our Ex Libris Voyager library system. ● Collaborate with the Director for Library Services and collection development librarians to oversee the $1,000,000-plus acquisitions budget. ● Partner with University Archivist in keeping abreast of and participating in Northwest Digital Archives strategic initiatives. ● Collaborate with other librarians in strategic planning for and implementation of digital collections and services, including but not limited to online journals, e-books, online reference tools, and data sources.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Integrated Systems Librarian in the Library Information Systems Department, the Systems Librarian will advance enterprise library applications through maintenance, customization, and professional vision. The successful candidate will work closely with team members, the Library Information Systems Department, library staff, professional colleagues, and vendors to deliver online services to the VCU community. The Systems Librarian will also provide systems administration support in both a local LAMP and an external cloud environment. He or she is responsible for exploring new technologies and identifying opportunities for their effective application, including the potential integration with other university and library systems. As a faculty member of the Library Information Systems Department, the Systems Librarian will actively contribute to the department’s overall objectives, engaging in projects and activities that further these goals. The successful candidate will provide occasional on-call and planned maintenance support. The Systems Librarian is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Faculty with the VCU Libraries are evaluated, and promoted, on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.

Qualifications

Although experience in certain areas is desirable, this is an entry-level position in which candidates who demonstrate excellent promise and a passion for developing superior academic library systems will be given the most serious consideration. Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline. Preferred: Working knowledge of technologies needed to manage the enterprise environment including system administration tools (e.g. UNIX command structure, Apache, security standards) and programming languages (e.g. Perl, PHP, SQL, JAVA, XML, JAVA). Understanding of enterprise library applications such as integrated library systems, discovery services, OpenURL resolvers, proxy services, digital repositories, and interlibrary loan. Exposure to research libraries with knowledge of public and technical services operations, as well as library standards (MARC, Dublin Core, OAI-PMH, etc.). Strong analytical, troubleshooting, time management and problem resolution skills. Ability to learn and apply new technologies independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff. Ability to work successfully with external vendor support and documentation. Availability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Digital Assets Librarian will work closely with colleagues, faculty, and staff to provide a wide range of curatorial services, including consulting on best practices for data documentation, developing appropriate data management plans, and coordinating the receipt of new data acquisitions. The Digital Assets Librarian responsibilities will include a liaison assignment with an academic department.

Additionally, the incumbent will possess: an enthusiastic and flexible attitude; the capacity to adapt to a changing environment; the ability to balance multiple responsibilities; demonstrated time management skills; and knowledge of emerging trends in scholarly communications and library and information technologies.

Qualifications:

• MLS degree (or recognized equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program;

• up to nine years of post-MLIS library experience;

• demonstrated large-scale project management expertise;

• demonstrated experience with XML, applying metadata standards and schema, and controlled vocabularies;

• demonstrated expertise with one or more metadata manipulation and scripting languages (e.g. XSLT, Perl, Python);

• demonstrated applied web application development experience, including familiarity with development frameworks (e.g. Ruby on Rails, Django), and application programming language(s) such as Java, PHP, or others;

• familiarity with semantic and linked data standards such as RDF and OWL;

• familiarity with standards and best practices in data curation and preservation;

• strong understanding of emerging trends and issues for research libraries in the areas of digital curation, digital preservation, scholarly communications and metadata;

• excellent independent learning and problem-solving abilities;

• excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently and in collaboration with others;

• evidence of a developing research portfolio

This is a continuing-stream (tenure track) appointment to be filled at the Assistant Librarian level and appropriate for a librarian with up to nine years of post-MLIS experience. Responsibilities:

The Archivist works within a collaborative and team environment, and will report to the Acting Head of the department. The incumbent will be responsible for: the appraisal, arrangement, description according to national descriptive standards, and physical processing of archival records in a wide variety of formats (including born-digital documents); development of digital content to promote the discovery and use of these records; and provision of reference services in an academic setting. The incumbent will participate in the work of the Libraries’ committees as appropriate, and will be committed to scholarship, professional development, and service.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in archival studies from a graduate programme conforming to the Association of Canadian Archivists’ Guidelines for the Development of a Two-Year Curriculum for a Master’s of Archival Studies or MLS (or equivalent) with concentration in professional archival education

Demonstrated expertise in processing and providing access to archival records within an automated work environment, including working knowledge of the Rules for Archival Description and Encoded Archival Description (EAD)
Demonstrated expertise in using computer applications to create electronic material to promote use of archival records, such as digital facsimiles of paper-based documents, virtual exhibits, and web-based guides to holdings

Purpose: Curating analog and digital recordings, photographs and documents in the Northeast Archives of Folklore and Oral History. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The Archives Manager will communicate daily with the Director of the Maine Folklife Center at the University of Maine and weekly with the archivist at the American Folklife Center throughout the digitization process.

A. Audio/ Curating analog and digital materials in the Northeast Archives of Folklore and Oral History

· Selecting and entering information into html database

· Checking all database entries for accuracy

· Working with audio preservation contractor

· Overseeing packaging and shipping of audio materials to contractor
