Rollins College is looking for a service-oriented librarian eager to help shape a dynamic, forward-looking liberal arts college library through the ongoing organization and support of access to databases and online serials holdings, including knowledgebase maintenance, licensing, and usage analysis.

Under the direction of the Head of Digital Services & Systems, the Electronic Resources & Serials Librarian will work with the Digital Services & Systems department and the rest of the library to manage the Serials Solutions knowledgebase of online and print serials holdings, to compile and analyze usage data from multiple sources, to negotiate contracts and licenses for digital products, and to most effectively present and make accessible electronic resources and serials to the Rollins community. This is a faculty position. The successful candidate will, like all full time librarians at Rollins, participate in reference service, instruction, and liaison with academic departments.

MLS from an ALA-accredited library school, or an equivalent degree. Preferred qualifications include experience with digital serials and electronic resource management systems, ideally the Serials Solutions suite; knowledge of trends in academic library licensing and ability to deal with library vendors; ability to collect, manage, analyze, and communicate numerical information accurately and clearly; and demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and web-based resources and systems used in libraries.

The successful candidate will demonstrate most if not all of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: the abilities to communicate well orally and in writing, to interact with the public effectively and courteously, and to work in a team environment and independently; an appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education; enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction with groups and individuals; and the potential to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to the library profession.

The Ohio Wesleyan University Libraries include the Leon H. Beeghly Library, the Hobson Science Library, and the Kinnison Music Library.  The libraries have a collection of more than 500,000 items with a distinctive rare book collection and one of the country’s oldest depositories of federal government publications.  In addition, the libraries’ holdings include 718 print journals, 18,773 e-journals, 158 e-databases, and 23,642 e-books.  The total staff of 21 (12 librarians and professionals and 9 support staff) is supplemented with an average of 70 work-study students each year.   Library innovations in recent years have included the creation of an Information Commons, the opening of a library cafĂ© with 24/7 access, the provision of reference support via Instant Messaging and the development of a Digital Resource Center.

Collection Development Librarian


The Marriott Library at the University of Utah is in the process of completely rethinking the way in which it acquires and provides access to knowledge and information resources for the University community.  In an information environment characterized by deep instability, one in which the functions of publishers, vendors, authors, and libraries are in radical flux, such a rethink is not only essential, but unavoidable.

In this context, the Library is seeking an energetic, forward-thinking, and patron-focused Collection Development Librarian who can help us envision and implement new collections programs while continuing to provide our patrons with effortless access to needed resources.

Position summary:

Reporting to the Head of Collection Development, the Collection Development Librarian develops and uses knowledge of the University community and the publishing world to select, acquire and make accessible the journals, databases, books and other media needed by the community. Will help to define best professional practices, and models them while helping colleagues work effectively to shape and build the collection. The Collection Development Librarian will focus on new developments in information access while acting as primary contact for traditional collection activities, and will explore and help develop new models of collection building and information access. The Library recently replaced a traditional system of individual subject specialists with a structure of College and Interdisciplinary Teams, who collaborate in collection building and campus outreach across broad subject areas; the Collection Development Librarian will work closely with these teams to train their members in use of new selection tools, and to keep them abreast of policy and procedural changes and relevant developments in the world of scholarly communication.

Representative Duties:
·         Day-to-day integration of collection development activities with those of Acquisitions and the Director of Planning and Assessment.

Digital Initiatives/Metadata Librarian

The Digital Initiatives/Metadata Librarian provides expertise and work in the creation and maintenance of digital content and metadata for the Library’s systems, including its online catalog and repository. This innovative, energetic individual will work collaboratively to develop, refine, and implement policies, procedures, workflows, metadata standards and crosswalks for digital collections; manage assigned digitization projects; and participate in the overall management of digital collections and production work. This position reports to the Associate University Librarian, and is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position with the rank of Assistant Professor in the Resource Services and Technology (RST) unit. The incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively to build partnerships within the Library and the campus; engage in scholarly activities; and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession.

Specific Responsibilities
·         Lead and/or participate in the planning and implementation of projects and initiatives related to digital collections, including the digitization of materials in a variety of formats.  Provide plans for digital projects, monitor the timely progress of ongoing projects, and create documentation for project-related activities.
·         Lead and/or participate in digital content creation, and in the evaluation and application of appropriate metadata schemas to provide description and access to various digital objects. This includes keeping up to date with national metadata standards and schemas, and being responsible for interpreting and adapting those for local purposes. 
·         Propose, plan, and lead the Library’s digital preservation program in collaboration with stakeholders, establishing policies and best practices for the long-term protection of and access to digital objects.
·         Act as liaison for digitization and metadata projects with other departments within the library and/or other campus groups. 
·         Assist with training and technical advice to library staff regarding digitization standards and metadata assignment. 
·         Evaluate, analyze, and implement systems-related aspects related to digitization, digital preservation, and metadata operations.
·         Participate in the collaborative development of metadata/cataloging tools, and discovery and presentation tools and applications.
·         Participate in digital library-related initiatives and projects with Oregon University System institutions, the Orbis Cascade Alliance, and other groups, as assigned. 
·         Provide occasional assistance to the Monographic Cataloging team and participate in its projects as appropriate, working closely with the Head of Monographic Cataloging.
·         Participate in marketing and outreach efforts by contributing content to the Library’s Web sites, blogs, and electronic publications.
·         Adhere to University and Library policies and procedures, including Portland State University’s Professional Standards of Conduct (http://www.pdx.edu/hr/professional-standards-conduct).
·         Participate in the establishment of short- and long-range goals, objectives, and priorities, aligned with those of the Library and the University.

Qualifications
Required
  • Master’s degree earned from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience supporting digital collections and/or metadata services in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated experience working with digital library content and metadata standards, including non-MARC schema such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD, TEI, VRA. 
  • Demonstrated technical experience with current digital collection technologies, standards, platforms, and products.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
·         Knowledge of the standards and technological framework for digital preservation. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging national cataloging standards, including MARC, controlled vocabularies, RDA, FRBR, etc. 
·         Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to professional development and service.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with DSpace or other content management software, and knowledge of Institutional Repositories management, including policy matters, intellectual property issues, and strategies for recruiting appropriate content.
·         Thorough knowledge of OCLC bibliographic utilities, and experience with cataloging in an Integrated Library System, preferably in the Innovative Interfaces, Inc.’s Millennium system. 
·         Original cataloging experience and reading knowledge of one or more non-English languages.
