Position: Western State College of Colorado seeks a dynamic, service-oriented librarian to manage the cataloging and technical services operations of the library and to participate in staffing the reference desk. The technical services librarian performs original cataloging on monographs, serials, AV, archives, manuscripts, and electronic resources as needed; manages copy cataloging, materials processing, and other technical services operations; serves as the
library’s liaison to the integrated library system’s consortium (Marmot Library Network);
manages the college’s archives and special collections and institutional repository for storing
and accessing electronic records; staffs the reference desk in rotation with other library staff;
and participates in hiring, training, and supervising student staff as needed. Additional duties
include participating in virtual reference services and participating with other library staff
members in collection development, committee work, and setting goals and objectives for the
library. Night and weekend work is required in rotation with other librarians. The technical
services librarian reports to the director of library services.
Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with qualifications: $35,000-$37,000 per year. Benefits include an employee/employer shared contribution retirement plan and life and health insurance.

Under the direction of the Head of Instructional Services in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, the Undergraduate Instruction and Outreach Librarian will work with colleagues to promote, publicize and implement programs, services, and events for incoming first-year students and transfer students and will engage those populations to become more active and engaged users of the library. This person will also coordinate visits and orientations to the Moffitt Library from off-campus and community groups. The incumbent will develop and coordinate library marketing and outreach materials such as displays, exhibits and blog postings, as well as use social networking conduits, liaison relationships, and cultivated relationships with student groups to promote library services to the target community.
This position will coordinate and facilitate online library-related instruction for Berkeley’s diverse student population through a variety of media. In collaboration with library staff, faculty, and other campus partners, the incumbent will design, develop, promote, and assess the effectiveness of curricular materials, tutorials and other digital learning objects for an array of disciplines. This position will also contribute to training and support of other Library colleagues who are developing online instruction. The incumbent will collaborate with the E-Learning Librarian to encourage the incorporation of Library-developed instructional tools into the campus learning management system.
The Undergraduate Instruction and Outreach Librarian will be expected to provide leadership and vision as the Library investigates and experiments with emerging technologies that could strengthen online instruction efforts. The Principal Cataloger/Assistant Department Head plans and manages the staff (7 FTE) and daily operations of the Serials, Monograph, Copy-Cataloging and Catalog Maintenance Units of the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department. Responsibilities include serving as a resource person regarding cataloging issues both within the Department and in other areas of the Libraries. The Principal Cataloger performs original and complex cataloging and authority work for all types of formats and manages and contributes to cataloging and metadata for digital projects. Leads or coordinates selected cataloging projects to be either outsourced or managed internally. As a member of the Cataloging Management Committee, the Principal Cataloger participates in developing local cataloging policies and procedures, and in local implementation of changes in national standards, rules and best practices for cataloging. In consultation with the Department Head and appropriate staff, the position will help to determine needs, design training curricula including coordinating and delivering training and establishing performance standards for cataloging staff. The Principal Cataloger is expected to maintain awareness of and engagement with national and international trends and developments in cataloging and metadata standards, bibliographic and authority control, and knowledge management. Other duties include participation in library committees, task forces, and special projects, particularly those related to cataloging, metadata application and bibliographic control. The position reports to the Head of the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department. Working hours are normally Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program. A minimum of three years experience cataloging in an online environment. A minimum of three years experience directing and assessing the work of others in a supervisory role. Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards, practices, and products, including but not limited to LC classification, LCSH, MARC formats, AACR2, LCRIs. Experience with serials cataloging using AACR2, LCSH, MARC21 formats, CONSER Manual and CONSER Editing Guide. Working knowledge of one or more Western European languages. The Human Rights Archivist is responsible for planning and coordinating the work of the University of Texas Libraries program for the collection and preservation of analog and digital archives and manuscript collections that document human rights conflict worldwide, and for providing access to the collections. To this end, the Libraries will expand traditional archival programming as well as collect and preserve in digital form the record of genocide and human rights conflicts worldwide. Collecting and cataloging fragile or transient Web sites of human rights advocacy and genocide watch, and audio and video documentation, formats that are especially endangered, will form two cores of the Libraries’ digital archival preservation programming.
Required Qualifications: MLS or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited program. At least two years of formal experience in processing and management of archival collections. Experience with Encoded Archival Description (EAD), MAchine Readable Cataloging (MARC), and Describing Archives Content Standard (DACS). Reading knowledge of Spanish, French, or other languages. Preferred Qualifications: The Human Rights Archivist should be an experienced and motivated archive professional with a demonstrated record of innovation and public service. This position will focus strongly on digital archival content, so knowledge of and familiarity with XML-based metadata standards (such as MODS, PREMIS, METS, etc.) are highly desirable. Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists is preferred. Demonstrated leadership, ability to work within a team, and cross-cultural experience are necessary, as is the ability to work with library and academic professionals at the University and with international scholars and activists in the human rights community. The successful candidate will have significant experience processing archives and manuscript collections and be familiar with both analog and digital preservation. Knowledge of national and international human rights history is preferred to accomplish the successful identification and appraisal of valuable content. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to facilitate change and to meet deadlines are all desired in order to break new ground in information service to the scholarly and activist communities. The Library seeks an energetic and knowledgeable colleague to shape and lead the Library’s evolving role in the provision of information and the advancement of knowledge through varied means. The AUL for Scholarly Resources and Special Collections will:
- Lead the Library’s collection development programs, directly administering a materials budget of over $12 million and coordinating a total materials budget of $17 million for the 20 libraries that constitute the Cornell University Library system.
- Provide administrative oversight for the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections and the Asia collections; provide coordination for all rare book and archival holdings in unit libraries.
- Supervise an administrative team of 3 senior library staff to secure the broadest terms of access to scholarly resources, advance intellectual property issues, promote scholarly communication/publishing initiatives, and assess the impact of proposed new academic emphases on local collections and library resources.
- Forge collaborations with academic departments and programs, representing the Library in areas related to collection development, special collections, and scholarly communications to the University community.
- Represent the Cornell University Library on local, regional, university, national, and international committees and initiatives in the areas of scholarly communications and collections.
Required: MLS or appropriate graduate degree, PhD highly desired. Significant experience in a major research university with at least five years administrative leadership in research library collection development and/or special collections. Deep knowledge of current trends in collection development, archives and special collections, and an understanding of scholarly communications issues. Experience in increasingly responsible positions with demonstrated excellent administrative abilities including leadership, effective supervisory and budgetary skills, and commitment to diversity. Ability to effect change in a challenging and complex environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; enthusiasm for collaborative work. Ability to foster effective and positive relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head of Preservation oversees an evolving program for preservation of the Libraries’ collections. Five years of professional experience in an academic or research library, including two years managing preservation or conservation staff and at least one to three years of progressive experience with digital resources. Training and experience in conservation/preservation treatment, practices, issues, and trends. Demonstrated knowledge of life cycle management of digital assets. Excellent organizational, management, and supervisory skills. Strong public service orientation. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and creatively with administrators, faculty, students, and library staff in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment. Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Preferred: Demonstrated success in writing grant proposals.

The Research Librarian for Emerging Technologies and Service Innovation serves as an explorer of, and champion for, the use of evolving and existing technologies as part of the UCI Libraries’ commitment to research, reference and instruction. The incumbent participates in the supervision of the Libraries’ multimedia labs and technology enhanced classrooms: the Multimedia Resource Center (MRC), the Interactive Learning Center (ILC), and the Technology Enhanced Classroom (TEC). In addition, the incumbent participates with colleagues in the Libraries’ Reference Departments to provide reference service at the physical desks and in a variety of electronic modes.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Librarian for Emerging Technologies and Service Innovation identifies and assists in the service implementation of new library technologies initiatives related to the access and use of content in all public services, such as virtual reference, Web 2.0 applications, and other innovative technology-based services. The incumbent keeps abreast of new technologies that facilitate users’ ability to access and manipulate data and enhance the Libraries’ efforts to provide services to patrons in a virtual environment. The incumbent may provide instruction to librarians and the campus on new technologies through the Libraries’ workshop series and the campus-wide Electronic Educational Environment (EEE) workshop series. The incumbent assists the Head of Reference in coordinating a variety of virtual reference services, including scheduling and training. The incumbent also provides excellent and responsive general information and reference services, including in-person, telephone, and electronic. Occasional weekend and evening shifts may be required.
A key responsibility of the Research Librarian for Emerging Technologies and Service Innovation is to coordinate and evaluate the services and activities of the multimedia labs and technology enhanced classrooms (ILC, MRC, and TEC). The incumbent supervises and evaluates personnel and monitors the budget of these units and works closely with intra-divisional teams to support and facilitate team goal setting.
The Research Librarian for Emerging Technologies and Service Innovation works closely with Collection Development librarians and other staff to identify and deploy plugs-ins, software, and new technologies (such as streaming audio and video) to enhance the delivery of information to users. The incumbent also advises and collaborates with Collection Development and Reference staff to effectively utilize Web 2.0 technologies and social networking software to market library resources and to facilitate scholarly sharing.
The successful candidate for this position is a member of both Langson Library Reference and Science Library Reference, reporting to the Head of Reference with a secondary reporting line to the Head of Collection Development.

The Reference Department
Langson Library Reference is the research and information center of the Langson Library supporting research and teaching in the arts, education, humanities, social sciences, and business. Science Library Reference is the research and information center of the Science Library supporting research and teaching in the biological sciences, physical sciences, engineering, information and computer sciences, and the health and medical sciences. Both units provide reference services including research consultation, electronic reference, and a wide range of instructional programs and workshops. Each unit maintains a reference collection consisting of key print resources along with a growing collection of electronic resources. The Interactive Learning Center (ILC), a unit of Science Library Reference, and the Multimedia Resources Center (MRC)/Technology Enhanced Classroom (TEC), a unit of Langson Library Reference, provide access to a wide range of specialized media, software, and electronic resources. These units also maintain a variety of computers and other multimedia equipment for use by the UC Irvine community and provide classroom and computer support for the Libraries’ instructional efforts. The Reference Department operates in a team-based environment and the staff consists of 17+ librarians, 10+ library assistants, 2 programmers, and 2 computer resource specialists.

The Director reports to a 14 member Library Board—seven members appointed by the City and seven members appointed by the County—and will work closely with the communities, elected officials and staff to develop a direction for the future of Linebaugh’s facilities, services and programs.
